I feel like I am stuck in Facebook Hell. I have no choice but to start over by abandoning my domain name on Shopify and coming up with a new name, new domain, new logo, etc. be

I would suggest you abandon Facebook. It will probably continue to get harder and harder for small businesses to be successful there. They seem to want to push everyone into buying their advertising so unless you are prepared to do that, you might not have any success there in the future.

You don't want to start over with a new domain just to have Facebook ban you again.

Do you use the methods taught here to get organic traffic? Do you use other platforms like Quora? I use them. Unlike social media, it is a question and answer site so if someone searches for something they can find it even if it is years old. You don't have to keep updating it every day. I find questions relating to the answers my products provide, answer the question and recommend they check out my site for more information. They can shut you down as well however, so I don't rely on them. I rely on organic traffic.

I wish you luck. I know it must be really frustrating!

Jessica

Hi Jessica, I think I will take your advice. I have been stubborn in the fact that I felt I would eventually figure it out or the FB Fairies would help me one day. I actually started using some of the tools I learned but then, due to my frustration and experimenting with whether to create my own products or dropship, I went cold. Time to turn up the heat and get busy. Thank you so much for your words.

Hi Edie,

I am so glad I could help in any small way. I know it must be daunting in some ways but you will probably feel much better when you don't have to worry about the ever changing rules of a platform like Facebook controlling the fate of your business.

I used Twitter and their rules changed and I realized I really shouldn't spend so much time there either. It is the same thing. You could spend years on a platform but it only takes one day for them to change the rules on you and you probably won't even get any warning.

I love that I am almost entirely dependent on organic traffic for my websites. I read that even Kyle says you don't need to focus on social media starting out and there are successful members here who use entirely organic traffic.

Google can change it's algorithms and we can lose traffic but there are other search engines. Even when Google doesn't like me so much, Bing and Yahoo etc. still do! I don't have to DO anything because my content is out there for the world to find. Of course there are things you can do to stay on Google's good side, get noticed by Bing etc. I try to do those things but in the end these are small tweaks and I will not lose my whole business based on a change on any one platform.

The best advice I can give is to focus on the basics of SEO such as taking time to find great keywords and write great content, make sure your site speed is good by compressing images and then get comments. Comments are the trick for me to get and keep good post ranking. With great keywords and high rankings, you can get organic traffic.

My health site (supplements, vitamins, minerals etc) has a tiny number of posts but I use great keywords and SEO so I actually get organic traffic and sales from it. My primary site is in the pet niche and I get a good amount of organic traffic there. I have not been consistent enough about adding content but I am still happy with where it is. I think my sites are proof of how well organic traffic can work. I also LOVE not being chained to social media!

Let me know how it goes!

Jessica

Jessica, thanks again for that information and reassurance. Leaving the notion that to be successful I must be on FB is liberating! Now I need to get busy and learn. You helped me quite a bit. :-)

I wish I had a solution for you. I am dealing with a bank bureaucracy right now. They are no more helpful!

Well I wish you the best with your equally frustrating debacle! lol

Did you obtain the domain name through shopify ?

Yes, I actually obtained z-bestnaturals through Shopify and then I obtained zbestnaturals (no hyphen) through 1and1.com. I was trying to alter the name a bit to get the to release this crazy tag they have on me.

Facebook is not a lover of affiliate links and if your website was built within Shopify its kind of a subdomain do not think you can move it, twitter still does not mind links via posts, most now are looking to get you to pay for ads

Hi, quick question here. There seems to be a big difference in creating a post from the area that shows your menu of items beginning with Dashboard, Training, Websites, etc. co

When you start your content on SiteContent and add the images you want on it your content. Once you are finished with edit like grammar and spell check you can hit publish.

You can choose whether you want to be a post or a page and do some more editing in WP.

I always edit in word press because I can add a featured image or take out the first image and make it into a featured image so the image doesn't duplicate.

It's up to you how you want your post, page to look.

Hi - you are talking about the difference between Site Content and Wordpress.

You are right that only Site Content has the free images. It also has a spelling and grammar checker, plus it checks for duplicate content. I don't know why it isn't adding to your website. Did you definitely hit "publish" and ask for it to be a post? Or did you add it as a page by mistake?

Its entirely your choice as to whether you want to use Site Content or WordPress.

And there is my answer!! Lol. Being so new to the platform I didn’t even realize that WordPress and Site Content are different animals. I thought the latter was just another area to create a post. I may not have hit publish. Thought I did but can double check. Thank you!! This helps take the confusion out of this for me. 👍
