As far as the menu at the top of my page, should I just have static pages for those and have a Category section in the right sidebar for my blog posts or should I make the menu
I think when people search for something and find relevant post on your website normally they are not going to care about your other post as long as you have the link to the relevant post is fine. also if you have static menu with catchy name there are chances to visit those pages.

Thanks for the input. Never realized how having people to bounce my thoughts off would make this process so much easier. I'd be completely lost right now without this community.
I used to think that people would want to browse your site, and my vote would have been for categories in menus. However, I've personally found that people land on your site finding what they want, and don't browse much, so my vote now lies with the "static pages" side.
I think it will depend on the niche though.

I'm very confused by categories and menus. I'm searching everywhere and unable to find any way to link them, or even if I should, but otherwise I have no content for static pages. Based on the input before it makes me wonder how much menu I need beyond blogroll (home), privacy and about me.

Hello all. The title of my post is a bit long so I wanted to shorten the permalink. Can I just shorten it in the permalink box under the Post title while I'm creating the post o
If you haven't published yet, you can edit the permalink. I do this all the time so it matches the title.
If you've already published, you can also change it but remember that if anything links to it, you have to change those links too! So if it's a fresh post, edit away and you'll be fine. If it's an old post that some other websites might have linked to or you have other links to on your own blog, DO NOT edit!
Thanks again for your help Nathaniell! You weren't kidding when you said you were always here to help out! :)
Hey, Nanthaniell, is it important that the title and permalink always match exactly? Can I just use the keywords in my permalink and have extra words in the title?
@Kewl Web
It's probably best to have the title and permalink match, but not necessary. At the very least, they should be CLOSE.
I would not purposely go and edit out words, but whether or not that affects your SEO is a guess. I know that some SEO plugins actually do that (take just your main keywords), so obviously some people think it's a good idea.
99% of the time however, I try to match permalink to title, but it will not break your site or SEO score if some of your pages are mismatched.

Which do you guys prefer and which one do customers prefer in your opinion. I like the fact that the responsive themes condense everything for a better reading experience, but d
Hi - I agree with the advice you've already received - you see everyone with smartphones (certainly in my experience) - I know lots of people who don't have a "normal" laptop/desktop now.
I've had to reprogram a booking program I run - as I was losing customers as their customers were complaining the booking "grid" didn't work well on mobile/tablet.
All the best, Mark
Definitely responsive. A huge amount of people use mobile devices. Remember, that includes all smartphones and tablets!
I think you should always go with a responsive theme. I personally don't think you'll lose out on too many sales by not showing the ads, but most of the time the sidebars will usually get kicked below the main content column on smaller viewports. I think the content of your pages does a better job at getting conversions than the ads in the sidebars.
Thanks for the advice bud. Trying to make sure I pick the right type of theme before I put to much work into the site.

So I have my pages in the menu, which are just stand alone pages, which I like. My question is, for the posts that I write, should I create categories so that I can have the pos
Thanks for your input judebanks and nathaniell! :)
I figured it would be a good idea, just wanted to get some feedback from the community before I started. Thanks again!

You can definitely do this. I wouldn't go crazy with categories, but a few will be good to allow people to browse posts on your site based on topic. I'd say start with 3-5, but that's just what I do.
Yes, create categories if it will help your visitors navigate your site better. Narrow down your categories to 5 or 6. Some people have too many categories and that defeats the purpose.

This is getting a bit frustrating. At least three times today, including right at this moment, the webhost server keeps going down. Numerous times I have been updating and addin
Yeah it is super annoying. Trying to write a post right now and it just goes down intermittently. It's not my internet cause other websites are working.
This happens all the time, sending a message to technical support is useless because they'll fix it for that one time and then it happens again later on, sometimes just minutes afterwards.
God knows how much traffic I'm missing out on because of this.
Hi Ed,
I have issues with my site ALL THE TIME and WA keeps saying its at my end. How could it be??!! Of course it's because of their server. They have to upgrade or they will lose clients.
We are loosing traffic because of this like you say. Not ok! We pay $49 per month, which is a lot too.
Usually when you have problems with your site here, it's because they're making updates to the site. The problems should be gone when they're done.
Thanks for your answer, but that would be just too many updates, so I don't think that's it.They always have to do something at the back end to get my site up running again. Frustrating since I don't know how much traffic I'm missing out on or losing...
if they are making any updates on their site, it's independent of the wordpress sites hosted for WA members. The websites hosted should be working fine in such case. Also they have mentioned they have a mirror site for each wordpress installation so if at any time the server is down the mirror site should render the site and should be working even when the server is down
Hi Ed.
I've used many hosts over the years - absolutely NONE have been without issues at times.
However, are you 100% sure it is the hosting here that was causing problems? It could have been your internet connection, your internet providers issue, the carrier network having issues, DNS servers having problems etc etc - the point is, there are so many points of failure between you and your website, that unless you do traceroutes and network sniffs etc from you to your website, you can't be sure of where the "blame" lies.
If you do experience any problems that you suspect may be WA related, then log a ticket with the support team, and they'll look at it for you.

Hey Mark,
I know it wasn't my internet connection, as I was able to access any website except for mine.
I know that this issue is sometimes going to happen. It's part of being an Internet Entrepreneur. I was just a bit stressed as I had been working on some content when it happened and had to restart from scratch. Every now and then you just gotta vent! :)
With that being said, with all the valuable tools that the Wealthy Affiliate community provides me with, rewriting a page of content is a small price to pay for having access to a ton of great information and peers.
Thanks for your input my friend!
Ed
I, too, have used many hosts over the years and the one I'm currently with I've been with the longest because there haven't been even *one* issue over the years. I also find their rates to be of incredible value considering this, and they are surprisingly more affordable than most.
This has been happening to me as well — I too have had several times within even the past 24 hours where my own website was the only one inaccessible to me for a brief period (several minutes). This never occurred with my primary host, which is why I'm considering transferring everything back to them.
It happens sometimes. Its just normal. I have a webpage before hosting from other providers and i experienced same problem. All you need to do now is to CLEAR your CACHE or your browser HISTORY from any of your web browser that you use. That helps too.
