How to Get Ranked - Updating Old Content
I have written 100+ articles but only a handfull are getting ranked!!
I figured this may be becuase I was knowcking out content and not really paying attention to the quality of that content.
I noticed that the ones that are ranking are the posts that had been written more recenly. This is not always the case but mostly. you may ask why?
The quality is better!
This just demonstrates that everything in the training about high quality content is true.
Follow the training!
I decided to go back through my old content using a detailed checklist of thing to look for.
Here is the list I am using to check for high quality:
- Keyword in title and naturally in text
- Keyword in introduction
- Word count 1000-2000
- Relevant images
- 1 video
- External and internal links (1 : 6 or 7)
- Ad code
- Call to action
- Link to free gift
- Grammar
- Check for plagairism
- Any ideas for new content from the post?
- Share on social media
- Remember to post on Google Search Console once all updates are complete

I recently watched a training by Jay and he shared a list (which I cannot attach here for some reason but will type it out) I think there are a couple there you could add to your list :
Keyword in Post Title
Keyword in Meta Title
Keyword in Meta Description
Keyword in Social Meta Title
Keyword in Social Meta Description
Keyword within 1st Paragraph
Keyword in Image alt Tag (i.e. Alternative Text)
Keyword in Image Alt Title (ie Image title Attribute)
1 External Link to Wikipedia or similar
1 Internal link to Another Page / Post ON YOUR SITE
1 YouTube Embedded Video (related to topic)
One social Image within AiOSEO Social Settings
Strong Call to Action At the Bottom of your Post
Please tell me, what do you mean by no. 7. Ad code?

Thank you. Adsense code. I originally had adsense place them on their own and now I tell them where I want them to go.

These are all good tips. You said it all. May be one more is the key words in headings and subheadings. Do you count keywords in the content? or how many keywords do you like to use in the content? Can you also explain how you do the ad code because I would like to learn.

Yes, I do include the keyword in the title - always!

Updating old content is always a good idea because we can always improve the content in one way or another.
I like to use one of Jay's training videos as a guide for updating old content. Old Content Optimization Strategies I like to focus on the meta title and meta description too.
The 7 Step Checklist is the main part of this training that I focus on.
You are definitely doing most of what is in this training video.
But this training video from Jay could give you a couple new ideas too.

Some great info here, but there's one thing I picked up on which I found a little confusing.
In bullet point 6, you appear to say that the ratio of internal links to external links should be 1 internal to 6 or 7 external. Shouldn't that be the other way round?
