How to Blog When You Hate Writing

I recently received a blog comment from a reader that asked if he should continue with his niche blog or quit because he hates writing.

He has written posts on his blog once per week for six months. The problem is he dislikes writing and says it takes him 3 to 6 days to finish one post.

His question is whether or not to quit blogging because he doesn't enjoy it but at the same time he doesn't want to give up his blog after putting in so much time already.

My response included several solutions:

Try Using Speech-to-Text Software

You can speak your articles into dictation software which will type the words for you. You can use Google Docs to accomplish this. It can speed up the time it takes to write an article and help to take some pressure off of writing.

Write in a Casual Manner

Another issue he pointed out was not being a good writer. The great thing about blogs is that you can write casually as if writing to a good friend. You do not need to be great writer. I suggested he keep it casual to help make writing fun.

Outsource the Writing

This is another option but it can get expensive. If you use low-cost services, you may end up with subpar content. It is risky because as a niche blogger, it is important to provide value to your readers.

I also pointed out that it is important to remember that a niche blog is a business. If this is the route he wants to pursue in order to have an online business then he has to put in the work. Whether he creates the content or if he decides to budget income to outsource the writing.

It is a real dilemma to have a niche blog and to hate the process of content creation. What would your advice be for someone with this issue?

Awesome advise!!

Thank you!

I write as a hobby, journaling mainly, but I've also written short stories and one satirical book. None of which I published for reasons of my own. But when it comes to blogging, that is another matter. It's a different mindset for me, and one that I am slowly getting comfortable with. For my journal, its just random thoughts of the day, most of it nonsense to anyone but me. When writing a story, I delve into what I call a fantasy land and I can immerse myself into that land, the story line and characters just seem to materialize and grow of their own volition.

Eartha, as I continue down this path, I plan to read your posts, I find your titles interesting. Keep up the good work and I appreciate the path you provide.

Regards
Greg

Thank you for sharing your writing experience! I have followed you and look forward to interacting with you here. :)

Great ideas as writing is not my most favorite topic either. I have tried the speech to text but have so many corrections to make usually.

Hi Chris,

I agree. Although I like using speech to text, I often find that I spend a lot of time making corrections. Lately, I've been typing my blog posts more often than not.

Wealthy Affiliate Content writing platform has actually helped me with the templates.

Very good advice indeed.

Thanks, Nick!

All good suggestions. Perhaps they should switch to YouTube to get the message out?

That is also a good option.

Great advice to him. But if he wants to add value to his site it must truly come from within. People can tell the difference.
Jerry

Hi Jerry,

That is a very good point. Authenticity is definitely a key element when providing value to your readers.
