IMAP settings for your WA hosted site

Using Windows Mail on a more modern operating system does not allow me to use the POP protocol, or if it does, I couldn't find out how quickly using google.

The option is to use IMAP. So of course, the old settings that I used on the old operating system could only be used as a guide.

I got it to work. I recommend strongly that you use copy and paste when copying the password information across.

These settings work for me, for my website hosted at Wealthy Affiliate. Use them as a guide if you are doing the same thing. Be sure to like this blog if it helps you out. :)

First, retrieve information from your email hosting provider. In Wealthy Affiliate, if you are a premium member, and your domain is hosted within the Wealthy Affiliate Hosting environment SiteRubix, you can find out this information by doing the following:

Login Wealthy Affiliate. On the Wealthy Affiliate Dashboard, select SiteRubix, then Site Manager, than Site Email. Then select the applicable email account. Click on the SMTP Settings for that email account. These settings are referred to below.

Within the Windows Mail Client, set values up as follows:

Preferred email address ..... SMTP Settings, Incoming Mail Settings, Username

(For example: name@domain.com )

Password............................ SMTP Settings, Incoming Mail Settings, Password

(For example: you didn't really expect me to provide with the password, did you? :) )

Email user name ................ SMTP Settings, Incoming Mail Settings, Username

(For example: name@domain.com )

Incoming email server ....... SMTP Settings, Incoming Mail Settings, Hostname

(For example: domain.com)

The standard port number of the incoming email server is Port 143 when using IMAP. The standard port numbers are not always used, so you may have to do additional research or contact the applicable support people. :)

Server requires SSL ......... Left blank (not ticked)

Outgoing email server ...... SMTP Settings, Outgoing Mail Settings, Hostname

Server requires SSL ........ Left blank (not ticked)

Outgoing email server requires authentication ... Ticked for "Yes, it does".

Email user name ................ SMTP Settings, Outgoing Mail Settings, Username

(NB: Be sure to use the supplied value)

Password............................ SMTP Settings, Outgoing Mail Settings, Password

(NB: Be sure to use the supplied value)

Tips:

Use copy and paste when copying information across. For me, once I found out the standard port for IMAP is 143, I played around with the settings and eventually got it to work, so I am saving you some time if the above settings work for you.

Cheers,

David

This worked perfectly for setting up IMAP on my iPhone.
I used my account info as shown for SMTP settings.
I had to choose non-SSL connection, and then it determined port numbers for incoming (143) and outgoing (25) all by itself.

Thanks for letting us know. It is always good to get these type of comments. :) If I was you, I would see if I could get a SSL connection to work because SSL is more secure. Maybe an email to your ISP support team would be an idea or maybe they have online help documentation. Just an idea.

I would prefer SSL, but I think that is an issue of the email server setup at WA and what ports they accept. The default ports for secure are 993 for incoming IMAP and 465 for secure outgoing SMTP.
Currently I am checking email through IMAP from 15 accounts on at least 5-6 different email providers to my iPhone/iPad and PC, using one ISP for mobile services and one ISP for my fiber connecton at home and all of those use SSL.
I also notice when logging on to WA webmail that it offers 2 login ways. IMAP and Secure IMAP. But the secure IMAP does not work.
So I think it is a server issue here at WA.

As you are a premium member of WA, consider opening a support ticket with their support team and see if they can shed additional light on this for you.

Obviousy a great idea :) Will do.

I tried and tried, finally found this and it worked! Thanks!

Many thankls for this - it worked perfectly right up to the "Test AccountSettings" at the end.
I get the green tick for logging on to the incoming server but neither of the passwords provided for incoming or outgoing SMTP settings are accepted and the test e-mail gets the dreaded red cross!
Any thoughts please?
Cheers

Use 'paste and copy' to paste in the user name and user password to ensure that the correct information is entered in. If that does not sort it out for you, contact WA support.

Thanks Dave - I'm on it now. Quite frustrating really as I have set up dozens of Outlook accounts over the years and never had this problem.
I'll let you know how it works out so we will both be in a position to help others if this crops up again.

Thanks. I recommend that if it does not work, that you should contact WA Support.

It worked! All set up now and thanks again for your help.

Great.

Thank you!

Thanks for this info David. When i get to the point of setting up an outgoing email account for my domain i'll check back. Currently, my forwarding is not working. I've rewatched the video several times and checked my setup thoroughly and when I send myself an email using my domain specific email address the email is not forwarded to my personal email as it is set up to do. The other thing I noticed is that the domain specific email address is not highlighted as an email normally is on my "about me" page. Do you have any ideas of what might be going on? Thanks so much.

Can I assume that you have pointed your domain name to look at the WA servers and that this has been the case for at least the last 3 days?? (Just want to rule this out first)

Can I assume that the email address that you are forwarding the email to has also existed for at least the last 3 days??

If the email address is not highlighted as normal, it suggests to me that the underlying code is not correct. Have a look at the image in the following post in my website where the code is correct. The code is very fussy about specific characters. The article itself explains this more and I think if you do a comparison you will be able to resolve:

Thanks for posting this David but I'm afraid it's way over my head!!

Thanks Dave for the info! :)
