More Youtube Sales

Last Update: November 06, 2018

Hey, just wanted to update the YouTube video I made last month. This video has made $54 in the last month and gotten me 15 sales with 1200 views.

The most shocking thing to me is the amount of clicks it's getting me to Amazon. As of now it's getting me nearly 70 clicks to Amazon a day and the video took me a day to make. My site which I worked on for 6 months is getting me 200 clicks a day to Amazon (the conversion rate is higher with my Google traffic at 4.5% at the moment and my YouTube traffic is 2.5%).

At this point making YouTube videos is a must for 2019. Keep in mind this video is winter oriented and the traffic peaks in November to March. I'm expecting this video to get between 15k to 20k views. If it keeps pace that's over $800 for a days work.

Even if I get 25% of that, that's still $200 for one days work!

These results are much better than I thought they'd be and I'm going to devote time daily to making YouTube videos now.

If you're curious my YouTube videos are very similar to these one:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCswqv-OXePrufGSxIbE9_Jg/vid...

In terms of quality I think these videos are a step above mine (I'd take my keyword research skills though)

It's not hard to make these videos, either. You need a decent mic for $50 to $100 and a video recording software. Camtasia is great for $259 I believe. That's all you need. Your face does not need to be on camera - mine isn't.

The video page above has 21 million views in total. Let's say they make $25 in affiliate sales per 1000 views (half of what my video is getting), That's $525,000!!!

Even if you're only making $10 per 1000 views you're still getting around $210,000.

$5 per 1000 views gets you $105,000.

$2.5 per 1000 views get you $52,500

That's not even including ad revenue which would give you an additional $42,000.

This page has only been around since mid 2016.

Also, when you use Camtasia you can save your videos and edit portions of them whenever you want. This means when the new year rolls around you won't have to remake your entire video and just edit small portions of it. Then reupload it with the new year.

So I'm officially of the belief that YouTube videos are now a must. Don't let the fear of making videos stop you. It's easier to make a best of video than a best of text post. The competition on Youtube is a fraction of the competition on Google. The videos rank immiedeitly too (sometimes within the hour).

Get ahead of the trend and start making videos.

Thanks and I hope you make some videos for 2019!

EDIT: Just to be clear my videos are much more basic than the videos I linked to. I only have pictures and no product video footage.

Hello guys.

Thanks for mentioning my channel. I want to say that your ‘estimate’ numbers about our earnings are way off. Not every video earns the same amount and not every video converts. You can’t come up with something based on 1 video (I have over 1000 across different channels).

As for the links, they are allowed AS LONG AS YOU OWN THE CHANNEL, meaning you can’t spam the comment section of other videos.

Youtube is not as easy as it was when i started. I’ve tried making new channels but couldn’t replicate the success.

Edit: I also want to mention that our channel is ran by a team of 6 people, so doing it alone is pretty hard unless you plan to never sleep :)

If you guys have any questions i can answer them ;)

Hey thanks for responding.. yeah I figured most videos make different amounts of money. That's why I gave various estimates based on how much you can make per 1000 views. I believe I got the views right, though (that was on your Youtube page).

Glad to see your a member her now, though. That's pretty cool.

Do you mind sharing how much you typically make per 1000 views or how much a video makes?

I agree with you that YouTube is way more competitive than people realise! The successful people have been doing it a while and have a lot of money to keep investing in it.

But there is a lot of money to be made too. I often make animated videos for YouTube channels as a freelancer and the budgets can be upwards of £2000 for each one. They take time to make mind and trust me the day rate can work out rubbish! (hence I'm making my own business).

There is time involved too. I would spend upwards of two weeks making one animated video and thats working at speed. So for me to make a successful channel on my own is not feasible. I'd have to make simple videos instead.

I have a question for you @10bestones - how many videos do you upload per week?

Lucy

It's getting more competitive but it's no where near competitive as Google. You can rank for keywords in Youtube that you'd have zero shot for ranking for in Google.

Thanks for sharing this information. I am very camera shy even though my family has been egging me on about getting in front of the camera more. So I started taking selfies this year, baby steps. However I may have no choice in the near future. At least your post confirms rumors of you tube income. Reading your experience and how it actually works on you tube helps with research info in regards to income potential on their platform. Not just a place to share silly home bloopers, DIY experiences and pet videos. So thanks so much for sharing and tech tips for making your own video. Wish you continued success!

Woohoo! Great news, Dylan! Congratulations and thank you so much for sharing this exciting update with us. Love it when you crunch those figures!
We can't wait to start making YouTube videos and we are not camera shy. We recently purchased a product to help us and we have our microphone and we will be ready to go shortly.
Your post here today has validated what we already believe.
WE WILL DO IT!

Wow, awesome. Thanks for sharing Dylan (per usual!!!)!

Does your channel have 1000 followers that enables you to directly insert links into the video using annotations, or are you simply inserting them into the video description?

If in the description, are you putting them at the top or down at the bottom?
Reply
dylanrieger Premium
Video description! Didn't even know you could insert direct links at 1000 subscribers
Reply
leoemery Premium
Just a heads up Annotations have been disabled as of last year, you can only add links within vidoes using Cards or End Screens now.

And you can only link to an associated website not directly to amazon or use any other affiliate link.

Very important to know, Leo, thanks.

With Vimeo you can have clickable cards within the video and have that link go anywhere and they also have end screens

I use Vimeo as well but I have never used it for ranking of videos in Google or YouTube, I use YouTube for ranking in Google

You're welcome, remember Google owns YouTube so they play really nice together when it comes to ranking and when you do your videos right

Oh of course!!! We knew that but then hadn't connected the dots in this situation.
Well, regardless, we have our training for creating videos plus we have on-camera experience and love doing videos. Just have to gear it to WA.
Many thanks, Leo!

You are still OK to add Amazon links in the description though?
Reply
craigrut Premium
Thanks Leo. I wasn't aware of that. But you still have to have the 1000 subscribers to actually link off to an approved website correct?

I'm struggling to get subscribers in general haha. I actually get a couple of hundred views a week, just no subscribers. I need to improve my sales pitch at the end of my videos I guess.

Hey Dylan, I was at your YT channel, make sure you create playlists, they will help your overall ranking. 3 reason why:

1) Playlists can increase watch time. A big ranking factor for videos is watch time.

2) Playlists are good for video SEO, that's because playlists can rank for keywords that poeple are searching for

3) And finally, having playlists makes it easy to curate your content into different categories.

Cheers

That's great advice - thanks for sharing. I'm wondering how you do the imagery and video footage for the videos though? The ones you have mentioned... are they just randomly found on the web or amazon etc? I'm pretty clueless about editing etc right now, but it definitely looks worthwhile learning! Thanks!
Reply

I actually don't know where they get video footage from (I only use still pictures). I just snip stock photos of products

This is actually really good advice. I just joined WA about a month and a half ago, so I've been super busy setting up, driving traffic to, and monetizing my site. There are all these ideas I've been having, I'm just short on time, but now I'm thinking of all the youtube videos I can make. Thanks!
Reply

Just spend a little time a day with your videos and you should be able to crank them out

Dude, you always get me excited when I see your post lol. With this one though, you really are pushing me try new things and get out of my comfort zone.

Though I am thinking of messaging a buddy of mine who's a vlogger and maybe ask him if he'd like to work with me, before I try YT on my own.

Congrats, and thanks for sharing!!

That can work! You don't want to miss out on this traffic. Seriously, Youtube is gold.

Ok. I've got to get on this video making thing I guess. :) :)

Do you first write the "best of" post and then use what you wrote for the script? Read it off, so to speak? Or do you sort of wing it for what you say based on some product research (point form)?
Reply
dylanrieger Premium
Well the good thing about Youtube is you don't really need a niche per se. So I won't be writing best of's for the keywords I'm targeting on Youtube. I do write a script, though. Nothing crazy. Probably 150 words per product.

Thanks Dylan. I just ordered myself a microphone. :)
Kinda scary starting something new, but you convinced me it's worth a shot.

This is awesome.
I have experimented with a couple videos here in the platform. I just haven't been able to do a review one as my niche of course is MMO.

I have bookmarked this for future use when I do get the nerve up to create a review video.

Congrats and thank you very much for sharing this with us.

Even though I've made 30 videos since starting my site, I only added my first Amazon link in my last video that I posted on the 1st of this month (Nov). In the first 4 days the video has gotten 14k views and has driven $30 in affiliate commissions (apart from the +/-$30 in ad revenue).

I feel silly for not doing it sooner because my best performing video is running close to 300k views with my channel almost at 1.5m.

The reason I didn't do it sooner is because I wanted to know exactly what YouTube rules were regarding affiliate links. Especially after so many channels lost there monetization recently.

I guess my point is, yes, I agree with you 100%. Videos are an important addition to the Affiliate marketing gig and with the Amazon influencer program it's even gotten to be a bit easier.

Cheers
Jean

1.5 million views - congrats. As long as the affiliate sales are good I don't think it really matters if you get ad revenue tbh
Reply
Jeannel Premium
Actually, my ad revenue from my site and channel are running close to matching my Affiliate commissions, sometimes even exceeding them, but to be honest, because I was silly enough to create a brand I needed to take a few months off from driving affiliate sales to focus on building a following to give me immediate reach after each post.

It kind of worked but took a bit of extra work. Was worth it in the end because it allowed me to add merch to my brand and so start generating a third revenue from my own sales.

Hu Dylan - so encouragin, I have to try this! :-)

Where do you get the videos and images from?

In one of the videos from you link, they have just opied the video from Amazon. Is that allowed?

But in another, I noticed they had a shot which was not on Amazon, or on the manufacturer's web site.

Would appreciate some advice on this.
Thanks you,
Ian

I stay away from taking personal pictures and videos. I don't think it's a big deal if you take stock photos.
Reply
YanFellow Premium
According to Amazon's T&C you're not supposed to copy images from Amazon for your site (although a lot of people so) but use the 'image link', I think one member here got suspended because of it. I assume the same thing applies to videos.

Do you use the pics and videos on Amazon?
Reply

You can get stock photos outside of Amazon

Hi Dylan,

Great Information.

Would you start doing these review videos even if you don`t own the product?

I know that best approach is to be to buy the product and then do the review about it.

But currently with not income, one has to rely on customer reviews, and research, right.

Anyways, thank you for valuable info
Cheers
Mike

How can someone Who is not a native English speaker use YouTube Vidéos ? Is it possible to hire someone to do it for me? If yes how much will it cost me?
Reply

I have no clue. But the videos that I linked to up top use a robot voice. They weren't native English either and used to do the voice work.
