46 of my last 53 blogs are on page 1 - Here's how
I just did a little research on my keywords and I was pleasantly surprised; almost all are on page 1.
I only write keywords with 4 or more keywords and I focus on best of lists.
For example, "best ___ for women 2017" "Best ___ for kids 2017" "Best___ for beginners 2017"
Anyone that's read a few of my posts know I love best of lists with the year in them. They rank easily and this shows that (I got 15,000 clicks in month 6)
They pay too. In month 5 (December) I made $1350. Month 6th (January) I made $2350. And this month (month 7) I'm over $1100 so far. By this summer I hope to be over 5K a month
This keyword strategy is available in all niches (especially general ones). If you want to use it yourself read these two articles:

One question. If you wrote a post on "best ____ in 2017", would you then change the title etc. to "best ____ in 2018" or would you just write a new article?

That's a great question! Change the url so it doesn't include the year. So your title will be "best gaming chairs 2017" but the url will be "best gaming chairs"
When 2018 comes around change the title to 2018, update the list with a few new products and it'll rank for 2018 too!
It is difficult to find proper keywords with the year, I simply cannot understand how you find them. I have been adding the year after reading your texts, but those are not true keywords, it is "keyword+year".
They work best in broad niches.. not narrow ones. So you might do household appliances: best microwave 2017, best toaster 2017, best juicer 2017, best portable air conditioner 2017, best dehumidifiers 2017,
You can do tech, outdoors, internet marketing, health, etc.
This strategy is not for narrow niches
