Hey guys,
Have just located a training for Loes and in her tutorial she has a template we can use.
The link to the training is: Affiliate Disclosure Statement 1
If you are targeting a US audience, then you must meet the rules for the FTC. The affiliate disclosure must be placed at the top of the post and no other links can be between the disclosure and the first affiliate link in a post. It can't be in the sidebar. It can't be in the footer. You can have a link to provide more information as a disclosure, but the disclosure itself must precede the affiliate link.
Actually, I was never clear about all the rules with the Affiliate Disclaimer, Jeannine.
Question: If the Affiliate Disclosure is a page on the top primary menu, is that sufficient? that is, if it's at top menu, then there's no need for plug-in to add a brief statement on every post, right?
(Aesthetically, I'd rather have the Affiliate Disclosure at the sidebar or footer, but that's not sufficient, correct?)
The disclosure must appear before the first affiliate link. Some people put it at the top of their post, which the FTC usually is happy with. Sidebar or footer would be nice, but no, that's not sufficient. It must be above, in the same font and type size as the rest of the content.
Well, I know there's 2 kinds of disclosures: 1) page with bunch of paragraphs, and 2) a brief sentence that may be added with a plug-in, right?
So I'm confused which one you're referring to when you say "disclosure must appear before the first affiliate link." I assume that means the brief sentence disclosure?
If website uses brief sentence disclosure with EACH AND EVERY POST, then additional affiliate disclaimer PAGE still can't just be at the footer?
If the website uses the brief disclosure on every post, then yes, the disclaimer page link can be in the footer.
Yes, I think I prefer it that way then. So affiliate disclaimer plug-in would take care of brief disclosure on every post, right?
Well, it's something I'll need to test out later on.
For now, knowing that having a brief one-sentence statement disclaimer at top of every post would therefore allow full-page affiliate disclaimer to be at BOTTOM MENU is good to know. Thanks.
The affiliate disclosure is a legal requirement if you're an affiliate promoting products and will get a commission. You can add it as a page at top menu or add it as a footer. You can use the affiliate disclosure given by WA or else find another one on the Internet. Or you can look at other people's websites and see what they use. Which wording you prefer and most suitable for your website niche.
Do you know of a good affiliate disclosure template for the page we need to create?
Thank you.
I want to add the affiliate disclosure template but I'm getting a warning that it may affect my ranking (as it's not original content). Should I add it anyways?

is it OK to write a content 3000 words long or more?
if that's what it takes to cover the keyword, then fine. But if you are just writing that much to hit a goal to appease Google, Google's algorithms will pick it up every time, especially if your bounce rate is bad for that page.
It is probably okay, as long as it is interesting and not a lot of repetition. Most blogs are between 1000-2000 words (although I've not reached 2000 yet, it has been close!). Much more than that and unless it is very interesting, people will quit reading, but Google will love it!
Best wishes,
Karin :)
No. It is a recommendation to at least write a thousand word article helps with google ranking.
There is no word number limit but if it's a lot just make sure it's quality content and doesn't drag on that your viewers will grow bored.
