Do You Find It Difficult At WA If You've Dabbled In Online Businesses Before?

1.8K followers

I have to admit, I find it very difficult to follow the training to the letter without some piece of outside influence comes along and says "Do it this way, it's the way you did it before, you can do it again"

They are very silver-tongued these half-remembered bits of 'info' and extremely hard to ignore.

I think that, if I had jumped in with both feet and totally immersed myself in an online business then I probably wouldn't be here at WA - I'd either be a success or I would have given up completely - it would have been 'black or white' rather than the dingy shade of grey/gray it is currently.

Anyway, enough self-introspection, how's it currently going?

My plastic niche didn't start out well if I'm honest. My 1st article got written and I asked for feedback for it.

It got ripped apart! LOL

Too short! - it was

Too many affiliate links! - there were

The affiliate disclaimer was wrong! - It was

Apart from that it was pretty bloddy awesome!

So, I deleted that post today and I have decided that this weekend will be devoted to:

  1. Finding one low competition (50 or under QSR), high traffic (over 30 visitors a month) keyword and writing one long, fully researched post around that 1 keyword. I'm not going to put a count on it it'll be written until all the points have been covered.
  2. Ensuring that Google knows the post is there by putting it through Google Fetch.
  3. Being absolutely positive that this niche is the one I want to be in - Am I passionate enough about the level of plastic waste in our environment to devote full time to it?

OK, those targets are enough

Speak at the end of the weekend - have a great one guys!

Unfortunately some people on WA think its their job to criticise any post they see. They will look for the tiniest flaw as they probably suffer from perfectionism

Don't delete any more posts your, learning how to produce content and everyone has to go through a learning curve.

I am sure your post could have just been improved with a few tweaks.

Here is how I think about content, its really simple

When I write a post I ask myself is this the type of content I like to read.

Do I like lots of affialte links or pop ups on every page
Do I want flashing banners and adds all over the place

The answer is no, so I don't do to others what I would not do to my self

Don't let a few people who only see the negative set you back we all have to learn and that means making mistakes

Your chosen audience are going to be the real critics of your content not WA members

Hi - Dom posted his first article for feedback to ensure he was on the right track from the outset. I wouldn't describe the fact that he had an incorrect affiliate disclosure which would get him banned from Amazon's programme as a "tiny flaw".

Nor the fact that he had far too many affiliate links for the amount of content, which would harm his Google rankings.

I didn't advise him to delete his post.

Perhaps you would prefer in future if I didn't offer my advice, and let people wonder in six months time why they had been banned from Amazon or weren't receiving any visitors or making any sales.

I receive private messages every day from people who appreciate my honesty and assessment of their site.

It’s sometimes comforting to hear that I am not the only one struggling... I sometimes read the blogs and look at the websites of others and feel very inadequate. However I will plow on because it clearly works for many, I guess it’s fining a route that works for you. 🤞

If it helps, I don't follow the affiliate training at all.

I joined WA primarily for the hosting, which is very good and webbased, as opposed to WordPress hosted.

My intention was to write about and review the marketing system, I use and have used for 17 years, on my blog.Which is what I do.

The marketing system is my own.

The primary focus of that marketing system is to build my list, or rather in my case, add to my list, which then serves two purposes

1. It gives me time freedom

2. It pays exceptionally nice commissions

The niche I have, if it needs a label is the Online Advertising Niche

I don't get to hung up on SEO when writing my posts

Hope that provides an insight.

Tell me more about your marketing system Dave, I am intrigued.

Sorry Dave I just got notified that I received a private message from you but I can't access them at the moment on this device - can you explain here please.

Totally understand Dom.

I would prefer to be ripped apart, than have my feedback sugar-coated which would result in me continuing to do things the wrong way (thinking it was OK).

For example if I was driving a racing car and I kept crashing on the same corner I would hope that instructor would say "you are doing it wrong, you need to do this"... Not just "you're doing good", resulting in me continuing to crash every time.

Hi Dom,

I sort of understand where you are coming from on what you have learned over the years and what is taught here on this platform

I have been doing online digital marketing for well over 15 years now, but never really hit anything super big (the reason I went looking for better guidance).

I applied what I learned on this platform to my e-commerce site and it boosted my sales by over 25%. How? By simply implementing what is taught here and not what I learned prior to joining WA.

My question is if you are going to continue to listen to what got you nowhere before then why even be a member here.

Remember for things to change you must change.

You agreed with what the members here told you was wrong with the article you asked them to look at for you. They gave you their honest opinion, you agreed with them, now i is up to you to learn from this trial run and do better the next time around :-D.

This should help you understand what WA teaches is not just what is in the lessons, but the experience the community has in writing blogs, marketing your brand, and other aspects not covered in the training.

To me that is where 90% of the membership pays for itself is through the advice the community gives its members. I feel there is much more to learn from the daily blogs submitted to the platform by members, then what is provided in the training modules.

As Steve mentions the items pointed out are very easy to fix indeed and should not have caused you to delete the article completely. Why not use what you started with fix it and do a new different review on a different item. Just fix the old article and write a better one this time learning from your mistakes.

Isn't that what it's all about learning from our mistakes to better ourselves in all aspects of our business?

Content is king and consistency is the key!

What I guess I am trying to say is if you are here why not use this facility to the max and learn what they know works and ignore what the others taught you that obviously did not work.

Like you said if what they taught you would have worked you would not be here now, that in itself should tell you something about the other sources of information that you have gotten over the years.

I am still trying to get the writing style of my blogs down, I think I am slowly learning. This style of writing is quite from writing for academic papers so I too am having a transition to deal with. But with each article I write, I know I am improving so all I can do is keeping moving forward never backward.

Best of Luck to you!

I know with practice you too will improve on the articles you submit to your website, don't be so hard on yourself it will happen you just have to give it time.

Hope this helps,

Calvin

Really sound advice.

As they say
“If you continue to do what you have always done, don’t expect the outcome to be any different. You will get what you always got”😳

Your welcome. It's good to take some things in the past that worked and integrate it into a new website.

Great Article. I agree!

Thank you Mick, much appreciated

I agree with the consensus in the comments. The advice you get, as long as it is directed towards actionable items should be embraced rathere than seen as being ripped apart. It's not personal. It's intented to help.

So do I, James, the comments given were exactly what I needed to hear so I can improve and move forward.
'Ripped apart' was way too strong a description for the review Diane gave it

Hi - well, I wouldn't say I "ripped apart" your article. I gave constructive criticism in a professional manner. Describing it as such may deter others from offering their sites for feedback.

Diane - I apologise - 'ripped apart' is probably way too strong. Your advice was taken on board and will be reflected in the next post.
Thank you for taking the time to review it
