A Question About Menus

Howdy Folks

Currently my main navigation menu is using Categories as the titles with the blogposts being sorted by latest blogpost first.

Is there a way of manually (or automatically) ordering the posts in each category menu to my specification?

For example, if I wrote a number of posts about a certain topic but they are spread out over time and there are posts published in betwen them - can I sort those posts out in my menu so they run in sequence?

Cheers muchly for any help

I guess it depends on how your Menu is structured, but you should not need a plugin to reorder your Menu. Once you have your Categories set up and in your Menu, you can add posts to the Menu and move them under each category in the order you wish them to appear. I have attached a screen capture of my Menu demonstrating this. PM me if you need further info. Jenni.

Hi Jenni
So, in your About Blogging category, you can easily swap the order of the posts and that change will be immediately seen 'live' as it were?

Once you've saved the menu, I meant

Yes, One of the things you need to do once you've made the menu change is log out of your website and then log back in. Once you click on the category, the newly ordered posts will show. I changed the order of the posts under the About Blogging Category and took this photo to show you.

Brilliant! Thanks Jenni

You're welcome. Glad to be able to help.

There is also a plugin called ReOrder Posts within Categories it has not been updated for 2 months. That is probably because of Wordpress 5.8. We have not tried it so are not sure if if works OK. It is a drag and drop.

Cheers George, much appreciated

i think there is a post order plugin to set how you want the posts to show.....
there is post types order plugin
and Simple Custom Post Order plugin
they maybe older plugins now ...but worth searching in the repository.....
or you can manually add them to your menu so they appear as a drop down... and add links to each post for the next one and previous in the sequence....
if they are a series ...alwways add a part at the top explaining that it is part of a series and where the first part is located....only because visitors may land on any part of the sequence

Good point Phil and thx for the plugin heads-ups

The only way I know of manually reorganising a list of posts is to change the dates/times for each post. You can edit these in wp for each post. Then the posts show in date/time order, either earliest time latest or latest to earliest, whatever you set.

Palm to Face ! Why didn't I think of that? Thanks Richard

You're just too good looking to be a thinker, Dom. LOL.

Now that's a backhanded compliment if ever I've heard one - but I'll take it ! All I need to do now is dye what's left of my hair blonde and I'll fit right into the stereotype!
