Recently, I'm not really sure when exactly, one of my website started giving 404 errors when going to any category or tag urls.

As far as I know no settings have changed a

Hope you have found resolution. If not, the WA support ticket to get help from the pros is one of the many perks we have as members. ^_~

I'm not sure but if it is the Permalink, it's an easy fix. Make sure your permalink is the same as your post title. You can edit the permalink directly below your post title in your blog admin area. Hope this helps.

Thanks. It is useful.

Sorry you're having trouble. I would have guessed it was the permalink. Hope you get it resolved. I had a bunch of 404 errors just the other day. It turned out to be because I had deleted some pages and forgot to redo some links.

The problem could be from a plugin. Disable all plugins, clear your cache and the try to see if the problem gets resolved. If the problem does not occur again, then, it confirms it is being caused by one or more plugins.
Next,
Activate your plugins, one at a time, leaving some time lapse in-between the activation. This process will help you identify the conflicting plugin

I am having one error come up 404 and it is frustrating me trying to sort it, have checked all links etc still being a pain, even updated my sitemap , I am not sure but I know bingwebmaster tools played up last week and I had to re-do my verification as did a couple of other members

Yes I had to re-do mine too, I asked but no got response

never figured it out what caused it but it all seems to be working now

I have just begun making YouTube videos and am wondering what is the best way to use affiliate links.

For example: if I have a Wealthy Affiliate review on my website and I

Heads up YouTube is very grey on the use of affiliate links, they don't say you can and they really don't say you can't. Many channels have been terminated for the improper use of links.

To avoid any problems what you want to do is activate your External Annotations function. You'll find where to set this up by going to your Creator Studio > Channel > Advanced.

Once this feature is activated you can have active links right in your YouTube videos.

However these links can only go to your associated website for that channel. You can only link to your website (any page) not an affiliate website and certainly not a redirect from your site to an affiliate page.

If you are promoting the WA then simply link to your WA review on your website.

I did a training video on how to set things up

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/youtube-annotations-now-offer-external-links

Hope this helps

Ok cool. Thanks for the detailed answer :)

One important thing to remember is, make sure you send people where you say it's going. I personally get very frustrated clicking a link expecting one thing and then getting something I wasn't expecting. I'm not even sure that makes sense. lol

Yeah, I definitely understand you on that one. I hate that too.

See you have several answers. My suggestion is simple. Keep your links within your website where you have control. YT is merely a 3rd party instrument to provide information. YOU are the primary information link to your reader. ^_~

Yeah. That's a good point as well. Thank you :)

I agree, great question. I also learned a lot from the answers below! :) Christa

I'm glad it helped you out too :)

Great question. I learned a lot from everyone's answers also. In general YouTube and others want you to use paid ads for commercial purposes rather than their free service. So to be safe keep your links to your own blog site.

Yeah. You're definitely right.

I Think you should only link to your own page not a 3 part you risk they shot it Down and you have to Do a lot off Think all over whit a New acount

Yeah. That seems to be the general consensus.

Hey Dustin,

It's against YouTube's TOS to put direct affiliate links into the description. Having said that people do it all the time. But YouTube does suspend accounts and it could very well be due to including direct affiliate links.

I think it's a better practice to bring them to your website (like your review page, etc) rather than a direct sign up page to WA as you can give them more information there about WA. This will keep you within the good graces of YouTube.

Best Regards,
Jim

Great! Thank you for that information regarding YouTube's TOS. Definitely don't want to get my account suspended!

Looks like I will be sending them to my website first :)

If you are linking from within the YouTube video then you need to Associate your website with YouTube, so no choice but to link to your site.

Even for links shown below the video I think credibility is enhanced by linking to your own site.

I think the main purpose of YouTube videos should be to drive traffic to your site but am open to other ideas.

Yeah, you're right. It's also against YouTube's TOS of service to put direct affiliate links in your videos and their descriptions. (Thank you to techhound for that information).

I understand this was an old thread but I see many people doing product reviews and having Amazon affiliate links in the description for their YouTube videos. Is this against YouTube's TOS?

I haven't looked at YouTube's TOS in a while so I can't say for sure if it's allowed or not. However, I still think it does make it seem a little more legitimate if you link to a review on your site rather than directly to the sales page, but then again, it does add an extra step in which you might lose the potential sale.

Leoemery has a pretty good response regarding this in his answer just below here on this thread.

Hi Dustin, my opinion is that it will depend on if you would like to captured their information before sending them to the product so that you can continue to market to them.

Yeah. That's a good point. Techhound (above) actually pointed out that it's agains YouTube's TOS to put direct affiliate links in your videos or video descriptions. So, that's something to keep in mind too.

Hi Dustin. You want to put your link in the place when people click on they are put through to the place where they are going to purchase from you.

Yeah, definitely.
