You can sell it from your own site and perhaps through amazon to, this might help Write and Sell eBooks
An ebook can be a place to create content around your own niche and have strategically placed links to your site or any affiliate products you may have.
If your ebook is at all like that, then you should only really use it as a give away, eg in return for an email address if you're building a list, after all, the book is basically promoting yourself so has no other intrinsic value.
If your ebook is more generic, regardless of the topic, then it'll probably be of greater value so you could consider selling it but you have to careful about price setting. These days it seems that most sale products have a 7 at the end ie depending on value and content level $7, $17, $47, $97 etc so think about that as well.
If you have a list and want to build it up, and who wouldn't, then even if your book has generic and great content, you could still consider giving it away in exchange for names and email addresses. Doing this will build your credibility as well as your list as your readers will see that you give away excellent free content.
In the long term that would probably be the best way to go.

Thanks for your comments. I'm thinking about creating an e book around a specific event. The event takes place over 7 days and is expected to attract in excess of 300,000 people. I was thinking about selling "local knowledge" as I live in the area?
OK, then I'd expect there to be an official website, and maybe several unofficial sites, for the event and probably even a Facebook fan page for it....official and unofficial ;-)
Maybe the websites have forums you could post on with a link to your book in the signature box... you could could also like and comment on the facebook page (assuming there is one).......and make your own fb fan page for it, like and share content it from the official one to yours. Check out the pages of the event contributors, artists or trade stands (depending on the type of event it is) and like and share their pages
How about throwing up your own site for the event, if the event is a regular one the site could grow into an authority one over time. You can get an associated domain name here and build and host it here too.
If the event has a youtube video, you could post it to your page etc etc
When you get your thinking cap on, there's plenty of ways and places to place your ebook's link so good luck.

Does anyone have any advise or links for shipping fresh and/or frozen produce to China from Europe?
please excuse my ignorance it was only when I offered to help Dugg2 that I thought maybe there are others out there who could do with a little help buying from China.
Do not be taken in by people telling you that you have to buy big numbers from China,I never did and I was there 4-5 each year to buy for my market stall,you buy what you like and in the amount you like,I have 1000s of contacts I made over 15 years so if anybody needs help in sourcing any product at wholesale prices let me know and I will do all I can to help including putting you with an agent who will do everything for you,,I have used the same people for the last 12 years and have never been let down by them,,,fabulous sourcers..or if you just want the factory owner and his website that wont be a problem either.. Joe..
