You Can Inspire Someone Else without Setting Out To

Being a leader is one thing we should always aspire to

Your children look up to you and aspire to be just like you

If you're a manager in a company your salespeople will treat customers the way you treat them

On Quora there was a question--How much do Olympic athletes earn when they medal?

Here was my answer--Olympic athletes don't earn anything from the metals, they earn that money through endorsements. When an athlete trains for years and wins a metal, they usually at the top of their game. This makes them a role model for any young athlete with aspirations to compete in the Olympics. Shaun White, one the very first competition in snowboarding half pipe, when it became an Olympic event. He gets big endorsements because he has remained at the top of his event for 12 years and still going strong.

The story of Chloe Kim is just as inspiring because her parents immigrated from South Korea to the United States and she won the gold medal competing in South Korea. Because her story is so inspiring she stands to receive many offers for endorsements.

In the Paralympics, you have just as many inspiring stories, but because they don't have the money to pay for coverage of their events, few people see them. The one athlete from the summer Paralympics, Oscar Pistorius, had achieved fame by participating in the Olympics in addition to the Paralympics; but because of circumstances has fallen out of grace. For many viewers who saw him in the Olympics, he was inspiring because of his ability to run using prosthetics.

For many people with disabilities who have found success always get admired for the wrong reasons. As someone with a disability, I often had people come up and tell me how they admire me for the things I've achieved. All I've done is learn to adapt to live the best quality of life possible with in my limits, but because someone else finds it inspirational because they can't imagine what it's like having to learn to adapt to live your life slightly different than everyone else and also be seen as no different than anyone else.

People with disabilities want to be admired for the right reasons and not the wrong reasons! The right reasons being that they put in the hard work to achieve their goals just like everyone else, not because they're doing something out of the ordinary.
