OK, just to be clear, indexing and ranking are two different things. Indexing means Google knows about your site/post. Ranking refers to where it shows up when you search for a term (i.e. on page 3, spot 5, etc.).
There are a number of reasons it can take time to get indexed. Here are a couple of hints for ways to get indexed faster:
1) Submit your sitemap to the search engines. Plugins such as All in One SEO have features that you can enable that will generate the sitemap for you. All you have to do then is submit it to the various search engines.
2) Use the Fest as Google tool to fetch your post's URL and then request indexing.
3) Submit your URL to the other search engines such as Bing Webmaster Tools, etc.
