This post will explain how to capture any form of media from the internet. A media clip can be video or audio. The image above is from an animated clip that I added to a YouTube video to illustrate "waited patiently." The media clip has to be downloaded to your computer because a URL cannot be directly copied into the OBS media browse window. However, in a later step, you will see that it is easy to use a clip directly from your downloads file.

Once a blank scene is created by clicking + , "media source" is chosen in the window that opens after clicking + in "sources".

The "Create New" button is clicked in the window that opens, unless the media clip is already stored in OBS. The "OK" button clicked.

Browse is clicked in the next window that opens.

The computer's drive search window will open. Select the saved media clip. It often is easiest to rename a clip when downloaded from the internet and leave it in your download file. It will appear in "local file" of the browser window when selected. Be sure to select "loop" in the preferences on the clip stops showing when it is over. Then click okay whether or not you can see the clip in the browser window.

The clip then opens in the OBS preview window. It can be sized and moved using the squares at each corner. Text, images, audio clips can be added to this "source". In the cover image, text was added by selecting "text" from the "sources" menu of that scene in as in the homework.

.

Downloading a media clip from the internet is another tutorial. For homework for this post:

  • go to: animatedimages.org.
  • Scroll down to the alphabetical lists and click on any listing.
  • Choose a moving gif and click on it.
  • Scroll down and hit download, Be sure to notice the url of the gif so you can find it in downloads on your computer.
  • Create a scene by hitting + in scenes.
  • Create a source by hitting + in sources.
  • Choose "media source."
  • Make sure "create new" is checked and hit 'Ok"
  • Click browse.
  • Go to "download" and select the gif you just download from animated images.
  • Click "loop".
  • Click "okay"
  • You have just download a media clip.
  • Make it larger. Move it around. Add text based on earlier homework.

This is just one more step in creating videos or live streaming with OBS. I have found that adding media to YouTube posts makes it fun to "Keep on fishin'".
