Name Your Pictures
Lots of WAers ask about royalty free pictures. I have gotten into the habit of using my personal pictures. This makes sense to me because I am writing about things I know or have experienced. At this point, I haven't needed a picture of a beautiful sunset in Fiji, but I have lots of nice sunset pictures from other places. My pictures look good on my site. I have no fear of copyright or royalties.
When I started at WA, I already had thousands of pictures for which I had done little organizing. So, I had trouble finding the picture I wanted when I needed it. I am still in the process of organizing, but my pictures are much more accessible.
There's no trick to organizing. I have a picture file on an external hard drive and, of course, some pictures on my computer. Both are in the cloud. Within that file, I have set up folders and sub-folders. I name each picture and save it to a file. I try to take time to do this with new pictures. As soon as possible, I transfer pictures from my camera or phone to my computer to be filed. When a picture suggests a new folder, I create it.
With lots of pictures, the process took awhile. I simply spent time daily naming and categorizing older pictures daily until done. I am pretty religious about naming and categorizing every new picture fairly sooner after its taken. My folders have one word titles like: fishing, family, beaches, cars, etc. I name the pictures by subject, place and date. For example,
Jon&Boys,Chandos,2015".
I bet you will find that lots of your pictures are "site worthy." as you Keep on Fishin".

The organizing is something I have been slowly working on!
AND, it is more than just pictures; it is content, notes, statistics I need to use if I can just find them...
E organizing is so different than paper filing. I find that I have to be much more organized with my computer than I ever did with a filing cabinet.
You are absolutely right; Which drive; which disc; which memory stick and which folder to even get close!!
Great tips for organizing, without the naming and folder structure, finding pics can be like searching for a ship in the ocean. Thanks for sharing.
Haven't heard your "fishin" stories for awhile James . Those pools ought to be restocked by now!
