Hobby, Side Hustle or Career?

Every WAer thinks about how this community and affiliate marketing fits into life. I do this primarily when my life changes. The longer I use what I have learned at WA, the more valueable it becomes. When I start questionning whether there is time in life for this, I ask myself if learning at WA and affiliate marketing should be a hobby, a side hustle or a career for me .... right now.

A hobby is something we do because we enjoy it. It may be difficult or time consuming or expensive, but fulfilling as well. It enhances life, but is not necessary.

A side-hustle or 2nd job is different. Side-hustles last as long as the need lasts.

A career takes dedication, work and growing expertise. It provides a living and personal fulfilment. I had two careers in my life. One I prepared for through education and the other through experience. They were full time and demanding.

Years ago, when I found WA, I thought it would be fun to learn something completely new as a hobby. Although my "career" was very demanding, what I learned about affiliate marketing soon became a side hustle because I really enjoyed it. After retirement, time wasn't a factor so it became a career. This ebb and flow happened a few times.

One approach is not a better than the other, but may fit into life, right now, better than the others. I have never lost sight of the monetary goal I set my first day with WA. But, I think realistically how to reach that goal given what is happening in my life. This is a lengthy way to say, don't abandon WA and your original goals when life changes. Adjust what needs to be adjusted. Go with the flow and Keep on Fishin'.

Yes, you speak truth. Times change and we change. but we can also change the way we look at things.

For me, as I'm retired and ancient history, WA is all three -- hobby, side hustle and career. I love writing, and especially about cats, so in that sense WA is a hobby. It's a side hustle right now because the income is still marginal. However, as I'm putting my all into my WA projects, it is as close as I'll come to a second career.

I, too, set monetary goals, but have found that I'm just as interested in the journey as in the possibility of making money. It's a great learning experience with exciting new terrain appearing every day. I certainly don't plan to quit!

There are several rewards to this kind of venture other than just monetary. That's a great reward though. Thanks for reading.

Nicely said.
Look at WA in different ways as your life changes, like that.
Thanks

Thanks for reading.

I found WA after my career ended. I was looking for something else that would allow me to make money (yes), but primarily would keep me busy. This is the unsung attribute for WA. It keeps our minds busy and actively seeking knowledge. IMHO.

Exactly. Thanks for reading.

In my case, I retired after a successful and enjoyable career in IT. Then I lost all my retirement savings to a poor business decision. I already knew how to build websites but WA taught me how to turn that knowledge into a new career that would fund my retirement.

That is an inspirational comment. Thanks.

You're welcome, Jim.

You are on point, Jim
