Feedback instead of Comment

Once again, I have started writing comments on the Site Comments platform. I f learn a great deal and feel that I am helping in some way. I think new WAers are requesting comments when they need feedback. The difference between Feedback and Comments can be confusing. Believe me, I often preach to the choir so I am going to do it here in hopes of helping a new WAer.

Requesting Feedback is asking for suggestions about theme, format, font, image placement, links, typos, etc. It's designed to get objective suggestions on the structure and style of a website. A Comment, on the other hand, is interaction with the content of an article. The platform even provides suggestions for the type of interaction requested. One major difference between the two platforms is that a comment can be posted to a website.

I have received a few requests for comments on websites that have no content. My assumption is that feedback is the real request, but made in the wrong platform. There is no way to write a meaningful comment on a header image, title and a couple of test lines of content. But, feedback on these few things might be important. I have closed tabs and comment emails when I found an essentially empty website only to realize that I have lost the name of the author. This means that I can't send that person a message about feedback rather than comment.

I would like to suggest that choir members note the author's name, if you come across an empty site, and write to suggest feedback rather than comment. To new WAers, I suggest that you request feedback rather than comment as you build you website until you are publishing content. This is just my opinion, but I think it will help make it easier and more productive as we "Keep on fishin'."

Jim, I am a new person you may be helping. But I am still confused. In the Level 2 training, we were told to write a post and ask for feedback. We in turn had to comment on two other websites for credits. Links were provided. Now I am in Level 3 training and having to do it again.

This is what it says:
Use the SiteFeedback platform to get at least one review of your new post.
Comment on at least two other people's websites. Offer feedback on at least two people's website pages.

I'm not sure I've ever been to SiteComments, except by accident when I clicked on it instead of SiteContent a couple of times.

Spot on its happen a lot. I know its confusing but it waste everyones time. Site comments are very different to site feedback, very useful for people. Thanks for posting, Phil

I hope it helps someone. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Thank you for that informativeven thought. Really thought provoking, it helps you to sort things.

Great work.

Thanks for sharing this! I got some comments on my website that clearly should be posted as feedback if that’s what I had requested.

Not a big deal, but something we all should be aware of.

All the best,
Fred.

Good reading here, Jim!
Thank you for clarifying both Feedback comment and requesting comment.
Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks,
Joyce
