Domain Name and Website Title
As with any activity or industry, working with computers on the internet has a particular jargon that must be learned. Computer and internet related terms are common now, but add variations in the use of terms by WA and it can be difficult for new WAers to completely understand lessons, trainings and suggestion
Folks my age have had to learn new meanings for old words. A cursor used to be someone that was angry. Years ago, if I had created 300 posts, I would have built a fence. An icon was a religious symbol. But, I digress.
There are two terms that seem to confuse people new to WA. These are "domain name" and "website title."
Simply put: a domain name an the internet address. It needs to be used precisely or a browser can't find a site.
I am not going into choosing a domain name in this post, but I do want to remind you that domain names cannot be changed.A website title is the name of a website. It can be the domain name, but it does not have to be. Choosing your website title is the second step of building a website at WA.
The website title can be changed by going to site manager>appearance>customize>site identity. The title is changed in the "Site Title" line.Affiliate applications often ask for both the domain name and the website name. Both are important. Visitors note a domain name that interests them to return to a site the same way someone notes a street address to find a store. The website title becomes part of the site identity.
I hope this helps you understand these two terms a little better so that its easier to keep on fishin'!
