Copy the Code

Through the circumstances of life, I have learned a few languages including a native American writing system. At some point, I have had to do the best I could with a language to get by. The first time I saw code, in the "text" format of Word Press, I was overwhelmed. I had copied the code for a WA banner, but couldn't figure out where to put it in the all that code. Remembering Kyle's suggestion of typing in a word as a visible placement marker helped. But I found that there were issues with spacing, alignment, sizing, etc. as I tried to place other banners and images on my site.

(If you know coding, please stop reading. I am embarrassed about having you see what I am about to suggest.) When there is a problem, I look for something on the page that does not have the problem. In "text" mode, I search for the code that aligns or spaces... that eliminates the problem. When I find what I am looking for, I copy the appropriate code and paste it where its needed.

For example, looking at things that are properly centered on the page, I identified <h1 style="text-align: center;"> as code that centers things. So I pasted that code in front of the code of the thing I want centered and..... it centered. Because I just can't remember these short code lines, I have pasted them into a note on the computer. When I need one, I copy it off that note. When I use a new code phrase, I add it to my growing list. For some reason, I could learn the symbols for a native language, but I am having trouble learning this code. If copying and pasting code helps me, it might help you ....

Jim, you have done well. That's a great workaround man.
the code is with you :).

I did the same thing when I had free websites from other places that weren't so "code" friendly.

Different strokes for different folks. Sometimes, we are all going to the same destination; following a different map or directions. Same results when we arrive.

The workshops of the greatest artists of Europe did not instruct their students to just go ahead and be brilliant all day long.

For hundreds and thousands of hours on end, they’d study the works of masters, arrange their easels in front, and just COPY. It was a wonderful way to deconstruct and understand the techniques being used.

They’d replicate in order to learn.

Similarly, one of the many traditions of teaching music composition asks that students learn how the great scores are constructed, by copying them out by hand.

‘Script kiddy’ is the lighthearted dismissive term used to describe youngsters who are learning to code and crack things by copying and pasting lines of code.

Everyone who codes starts off doing this, whether they use a little bit of javascript they found on a forum somewhere, or copy exactly what their teacher shows them how to do.

So why would you feel embarrassed?

I think it’s wonderful!

Good point. We all have to learn everything.

Great idea Drjec,
Thanks for sharing and have a great day.

Hahahahah I loved this article.

I'm a dummy in codes too. And it didn't take me long to realize that the best way is to copy and paste FOR NOW.

The coding language will come later. I like the idea of keeping the codes handy. What I have done is bookmark all the pages having all the codes I want. Each time I need a particular one, I just go to my bookmark, copy, modify what has to be modified, and then use.

My LEARNING MODE has just not yet been activated for codes. This is the most bizarre thing I've ever had to learn. It just doesn't make sense, but I hope that one day all will make perfect sense to me. And I look forward to that day.

Thanks for the tip.

There was Morse Code, then Shorthand and now regular code. Shortcutting never stops!

Good suggestion there Jim, code can be a scary thing patiently working away at it can be helpful wat to go.

Thanks for sharing, James.
