Add an Arrow

As much work as I have done with the editing tools on a Mac, I just discovered how to add an arrow to an image. Several months ago, I asked how WAers add arrows to their posts. Several software programs were suggested by a few people. I decided against using an extra program for editing text and images. While I was working with an image yesterday, I found the arrow hiding in the "shapes" tool which I use fairly often.

After choosing an image in "Preview" and opening the "tool box" as is done with other MAC editing tools, choose the shape icon.

This will bring up, surprisingly enough, various shapes.

For some reason, I hadn't noticed the arrow in the top right corner of this window. Choose the arrow to have an arrow displayed on your image.

The working arrow is displayed with a blue dot, on either end, which adjust the direction and length of the arrow. To adjust the direction and length, grab and pull one of the blue dots. Grab and pull the small dot to bend the arrow.

Of course, the dots disappear once the adjusted arrow is captured.

I don't know how I missed this little icon. I guess it puts another arrow in my quiver of editing tools and helps me keep on fishin'!

Thanks for the tip!

I'll have to look more carefully at my editing software!

Nice! Thanks. I never knew that myself. I guess because i use other editing tools for arrows, but now that I know I can do that within Preview - I'm going to lean on that little tidbit a lot!

PS - I just checked it out... you can add text, too... Well I'll be!

Yes some of those symbols are hiding in plain sight James

Thanks for this informative post.

Thanks for this.

Thanks for this great tip Jim. I use a Mac so I'll try this out.

Thanks for the tip. I use a MAC exclusively, but I didn't know about this tool. I've bookmarked it for future reference.

Thanks for the tips
