A Bit More Advice

About a year ago, I found WA and started my website with great enthusiasm. I am still very enthusiastic and the site is doing well, but I have learned a few things. I have said, i posts about a million times, that my niche is fishing.

Because I love to fish and know fishing equipment, I immediately thought about that niche. As it turned out, there are lots of affiliate sites that offer great equipment and great deals. What I did not consider when thinking about my niche and my website, were people who would be my customers .... primarily people who fish.

After a few months of lots of visits and few sales, I started thinking about how I buy fishing lures. I love to rummage around bait shops and fishing stores looking at fishing stuff old and new. Online shopping is not always the preferred method for purchasing fishing equipment. As I adjusting my site, I find that sales are picking up. But, I should have thought about people who fish.. myself included, earlier in the process.

If your niche is cooking, because you cook, think about how you like to buy utensils and pots and pans. If your niche is gaming, think about how you decide what game to play and how much to participate. If your interest, translates into your niche, think about how you relate to that niche in terms of purchasing. If you represent the average person who will visit your niche, figure out what you want in a site to help you keep on fishin'!

Great advice Jim! Thanks! I will have to give this some thought. I think I am representing the customer. Maybe I need to rethink it.

We're always told to think about our readers, solve their problems etc. I'm amazed at how difficult that seems some days!

Great points! I agree it can be hard if your products are readily available in stores. This correlates with my experience that common products don't sell on my site. What sells are uncommon products that are unique and solve a problem for the pet owner. These are products that don't sit on regular store shelves or are least as less well known. I don't sell toys or food or water bowls. I have written posts on them but nobody buys.

I sell supplements and treatments for common problems that give an alternative solution to veterinary care (though they work so well my vet recommends them now too!).

More Great insight!!

There are many facets on how a niche is presented and we don't know exactly what people may be searching on the internet. We think what we have written is not a good keyword but after all it's what the people have been finding. We also think what we have written is the best but it's not what people need they are less interested.

If we have written something and it doesn't receive or increase in traffic as time goes by then it's time for us to revamp.

Yes! Focusing on others' needs is the clue :))

Yes, but your site can be educational, too.
It'll be something people will not find in the shops. It's true about any niche.:)

I like that! Very good observation and I will apply it.
Thanks
Mason
