Hello my name is Matt and I'm new to WA. I live in Adelaide, South Australia, a really nice, livable city with a population of about 1. 3m. I am 43 years of age and am the proud father of an adorable 13 month old boy; he is my first child and I have to say, fatherhood is awesome!

I currently work part-time as a truck driver for a small local company and I also work from home part-time in my online and offline bike shop. Though I don't ride nearly as much as I should I am nonetheless a keen rider and have cycled since the age of six. Learning to fix bicycles is one of the first skills many boy's learn and I was no different (along with basic plumbing, Mum rarely needed to call a plumber!)

Over the course of my working life I have worked in many different industries including Federal and Local Government, Security, Construction, Mining and my current driving role in the Transport and Logistics category. Though I have had an extensive work history doing many different types of work, I have always been drawn to the prospect of owning and running a successful business online.

Entrepreneurship runs strong on my late father's side of the family. 3 of my uncles were self-made millionaires, with 2 of them owning their own business's, (an Engineering Workshop and the other venture was a Piano Shop). Having your own business means you can earn more without the time restrictions of a normal job but also have more time off to spend with family; something which we all strive for.

I have been interested in going online for several years but my current venture is my first proper online business and has achieved mixed success. While the online part of the business has not achieved sales, (I was relying on SEO which does take a lot of mastering and also a lot of work and time) I have been successful with the offline portion of the business at a local level.

Recently I have booked 6 jobs for customers wanting their bikes fixed and serviced, I also offer a mobile service as well. Doing the work and getting people back on their bikes and on their way has given me a great deal of satisfaction and has been encouraging. However, ultimately this is not the direction I want to head as there's not enough work to sustain a business full-time and make a decent living, but I'll keep it going part-time at least for the foreseeable future.

As a dad I want to provide a really good standard of living for my son and give him the things I missed out on as a child. Not to spoil him as I still want my boy to appreciate the value of hard work and saving, but to reward good conduct and merit. I also want to be able to take him on holiday's as he gets older be able to share experiences that last a lifetime; one can't put a price on that.

I also have many other areas of interest; cycling is only one of them. I also enjoy camping, dirt bikes, fishing and the beach. I also like woodwork, home improvements and spray-painting; I'm one of those guys who likes to be in his shed and tinker. I trust that this has given some insight to me as a person and as a fellow online business operator/future online entrepreneur.

The thing about online success that I have come to learn is that there is room for ALL of us within the online world. There is no marketplace that is bigger and there is nowhere that represents this kind of opportunity, regardless of your niche, passions and interests (and it only continues to grow!!)

Take action on the training here at WA, immerse yourself within the awesome and helpful community here at WA... and ask for help when you need it. You will be well on your way to achieve your goals Matt!

Thanks Kyle for the great advice. You're absolutely right re the internet. Its is so huge it could never become saturated in all niches and markets. Besides, there's always going to be a certain portion of the population who are content (one would hope) with normal day jobs. If the're happy, power to them. But i want something that can leave a legacy. Something that i can say i did with my own hands and intelect. That would be amazing....

Hi and thanks for the great message. Im taking this pretty seriously and like you i really want to effect postive change to those closest to me and make the world a bit better place (even if it's just a tiny bit). I also want to not only be there for my son but also provide the things i missed out on. And its not to glorify myself as a man or father either, im doing it out of love for my child and i also believe we're all here for something. To answer your question the thing i like most about WA is the community spirit and training. I wish you all the best
Matt
