Shinny Objects Revisited...

I was just reading a few blogs and following some of the links that I saw. Soon I was reminded of the different blogs and comments that I’ve read here about those nasty little ‘Shinny Objects’. I would assume at this point that the following website is a prime example of what to avoid… http://mysharedpage.com/pinprofit?

What was interesting about it was that it is supposed to teach you how to cash in off of Pinterest, other than using Pinterest to link back to your affiliated sites. In Level 1 training this is not really addressed that much, so I hadn’t really even thought about the potential of making some money off of Pinterest itself.

Bottom line here is that http://mysharedpage.com/pinprofit really tempted me to check it out a little further and that immediately made me think that maybe I should ask our community here if this would be a good example of a shinny object. Thanks for you input!

If I had a "magic button" that made money, I'd be too busy pressing it to brag about it. Why sell a "Golden Goose", unless....? Ah, it never laid a solid gold egg. Oh, and if anyone believes in golden geese that lay golden eggs in the first place, then they're going to end up losing a lot of money to some very Grimm fairy tales.

Veronica blogged about this Pinterest "promotion" a few months back. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/veronica-l/blog/are-there-no-successful-women-in-the-im-space

Oh, and "Kaci"? K. C. You just have to wonder, huh?!

Rich.

Yeah, you sure do have to wonder!!! Great insight Rich. Ain't no Golden Eggs around here, just sweat and labor... but the rewards should be outstanding. Thanks Rich.

I checked your link. This person is a Scam artist. Check out the different fonts, and colors. 1st clue. Check the upper right (Can you say list builder) and finally, 5 seconds in an in your face pop-up. These are all clues that this person is not really looking to sell you anything on this go-round. They want your e-mail address. You will go into their list (if you are lucky only their list) and you will be spammed to the other side of Mars and back. Giving this person your e-mail would be a really bad decision.

I'd like to expand on what chieftess has said a bit. It is true that much of what you see out there is absolute junk and is selling an idea and not information.
Keep in mind that this place has addressed most if not all of the SOS information in one form or another.
Case in Point:

There you have a bit of information ( All available to Starter Members) on using Pinterest.
This is just one aspect of the training here. So if you are tempted by a Shiny Object, see if you can determine what they are selling(not always an easy thing to do) and then search for it in the training here at WA. I bet you will find that this Shiny Object has been demystified by Wealthy Affiliates.

Excellent info Labman... thank you for the great WA links to check out. One of the main items on my to-do list is to go thru WA Training and digest as much as I can. It's really great though, to read all your pointers to help me identify these scammers. I think if I spend more time here and less time pursuing things that I run across, maybe I won't have to be so concerned with those shinny objects and scams out there. Thanks again for all the outstanding information!

One more thing -- you won't realize this at the time but most of what's being sold out there as an IM product is actually available for absolutely free. They make it sound so mysterious and amazing in their salescopy but nine times out of ten you'll find exactly what you need to know by just googling it and looking for a free article. Google " Make money with pinterest" -- scroll past the information products and start reading. That's pretty close to what you'd be reading if you bought the product.

I just googled it and totally see your point... I also see how this could distract me from my mission here at WA, just as you covered a few moments ago in your latest blog. I could spend hours just going through all of those different sites, pretty much what I used to do, consistently. I've really got to be on guard, thanks again!

If it's not discussed or training provided in WA, then it's probably considered a "shinny thing".

When ya' put it that way, it makes it more black and white... Thank You!!!

Beware of shinny objects - I just unsubscribed to a bunch of junk sitting in my inbox.

I probably need to do exactly the same thing Kathy!

I don't think you would get too much out of it, DoubleTap. Also do you see how salesy this splash page is? You're going to see a lot of this kind of language/graphic in your travels from now on, so this is definitely someone who is selling a grq or shortcut to internet riches kind of product.

Nothing wrong with pinterest. Nothing wrong with someone selling their info about pinterest. Just right now it might be a waste of your time, is my opinion.

Yuppers, that's pretty much what I was thinking. I'm right in there between having finished level 1 and trying to gauge which path to pursue... still not exactly clear as to the purpose of the first website that we created and what it's specific purpose is. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be the mothership with many other sites (Street Articles) pointing back to it or if it is simply supposed to be one of many websites that will one day house one or two products that will be linked to something like Amazon or ClickBank. Yeah, I know, I'm pretty green, huh? So right now shinny objects can easily distract me, but like Rick Jantz , I'm working on that website and simply reviewing all the training that is available to us freenoobs. Thank you for your input and guidance... I really appreciate it!
