Monetizing YouTube Video.Question

Recently after reading Audrey's (livinlyfe) outstanding training on monetizing YouTube videos I went ahead and hooked my channel up to Adsense. It's been a week or so now but I haven't noticed one cent's change in payout. I average over 500 views a day and would think that I'd be getting a penny here and a nickel there.

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how long it takes for Adsense to kick in or if it actually is worth it? Also I was wondering if there are any other decent options for monetizing my YouTube channel?

Sure do appreciate any info ya' might have for me!

What's the verdict, Randy? I'm thinking using it as a traffic source, like Leo said, may be the best use of YT.

Too funny I was just over at your channel watching the vid on that beasty Stihl 066... man, that thing is a powerhouse! My wife just walked by and shook her head.LOL!!!

Yah, I say monetize as quickly as you can so ya' get a little cash coming in to cover WA and domain costs. Adsense doesn't pay much to start out with, but all ya' need is a couple of really good ones to get the views just rockin'.

More importantly though is the traffic that you'll get from your YT channel! Just make sure that each vid points to your site whether it's verbally, in the description or your vid credits... especially in your vids credits!

Sweet, will check it out, man! I definitely need all the income I can manage to scrounge up! Do you think it would detract from the videos or traffic to my site though? ... Credits, check! Description, check! Verbally...not so much, don't wanna overdo it! LOL.

That 066 IS beast mode! That thing is pretty amazing, and it's one of my favorite saws to boot. If you haven't noticed, that little red saw is just about as fast. The videos are about 30 seconds different, and there is that big pause on the red one... and the trees were almost the same size! The red saw has about 40cc less motor too... I'm really starting to like the red guy more and more. :)

Just checked out the Jonesred... you're right that little bugger is beefy for sure... also appears to be light enough to not bog ya' down on the big jobs.

Definitely like how you've got your credit, invitation to join ya' over at cuttingwithcronkito.com ... really nice job on that!!!

Thank ya! I just monetized everything. All or nothing! LOL. How long till the commercials show up? I enabled Adwords too, whatever that does. Like throwing the egg in the fire then wondering where the pan is? (That little red bas.... ummm, it really goes!)

I can't remember how long it took Cass, maybe a day or two. Go into your Google Adsense account and make sure ya' see a yellow bar like this... http://take.ms/rKXK0 that shows that cronkito1 is being recognized by Adsense. It took me a few days to even figure out if I was attached to them. You can also go into your channel and on the left under YouTube click on 'My Channel' then '7 Subscriptions' then on the left scroll down to 'Analytics' then 'Estimated Earnings'. If you're set up properly, this will begin showing stats. I believe this is how I finally figured out that I was set up correctly.

Adwords... I never really messed with them much and can't really tell ya' anything about them.

Good deal, thanks, Randy! I would have been flopping around in the dark... I have everything set up it would appear. I'll have to let you know about Adwords, but I think I read that they are only active if the video has monetization turned off.

Ouuu, that'd make it touch on the Adsense end of it. Definitely keep me up on the Adwords thing partner!

Sure thing, You'll be the second to hear!

Lookin' forward to it!

If I read everything correctly, Adwords is Google advertising for me. It is a paid service.

Yup, I think you're right on... I've never really messed with Adwords. I'm thinking that's where Google links some of your words to outside ads or something, right? Then you get paid on clicks? I just remember reading posts and constantly having these words that distracted the heck outta me!

Oh yeah, I remember those. They always pop up when you are scrolling by? Hmm, I hate those. Not sure if those are Adwords or not, I stopped when I got to the billing section and it was asking for my card info! Can't afford that right now, LOL.

Ohhhh, you got that far, ey???

Yeah, and now it's gonna have to hang tight for a while!

Or in my case for an eternity... definitely don't need anything discouraging the reader!

Hmm... Food for thought...

Just looking at my traffic stats... I dunno... probably shouldn't worry about anything till I get my buns in gear and produce some fresh content, ey?

Don't get down... Get busy! Content is king, eh? Speaking of content...

Yup... you're right! That's what I'm thinking too! Should have something out within a couple of days... shot the quick vid and updated the items page but still have to do the main review!

Nice! I slapped a new one down too! Now to think about videos...

Not a prob for you... you da man!!!

LOL, we'll sure see! That last one is a slow burner. Well, it's slow anyways! I'm wondering if it isn't a big search, like some other ideas will fly higher? Like I said, we'll see. :)

We've been hit with a little family thing... daughter in law is in the hospital with a viral thing and we've had the grandkids since Sat or Sun. Haven't even had a chance to thing about content... bummer deal!

Man, that sucks! I have a cold or something, hope I don't end in the hosp! Just think of the time you have to think about content! I'm always trying to think about that when I'm doing other stuff!

Yup, I can think of some great paths to pursue when I'm in the middle of a bunch of other stuff, especially when my hands are totally full... but when my buns are planted in front of the screen I just get this dumb, blank, empty look in my eyes and my brain goes to sleep! Something has changed in the last year and I just don't get it!!!

Ha, it's old age creepin on ya! No,not really, I get the same way... :( Luckily I smacked down a bunch of drafts titled somewhat what my idea was. It's hard for me to forget when it's on "paper". Then again maybe I should take the time to put a bit of content in there with the title so I can be sure to remember what I was talking about... What was I talking about? LOL

You just nailed to beauties for me... first, I gotta start writing down my ideas everytime I get one and second, I need to just start a post everytime I get an idea and save it as a draft. A bunch of drafts don't hurt a thing. I had a lot more consistency when I was carrying a notepad and pen around with me everywhere!

Ey Cass, what do ya' think about buying your own name domain like Kyle was talking about? I was thinking about it but not sure if and when I would have the time to contribute to rcstude.com, ya' know?

I think if you have the finances and you intend to stay in the internet game and make a name for yourself.... Hell yah! Seems like a no brainer to me! You wouldn't have to contribute, necessarily, you are just holding your own place, kind of. I just pushed your link (lots of RC cars, who would have thought?)... How is streetarticles? I think I need to start posting my posts in more places.

Ya' know Cass, I used to do Street Articles... when I first started here at WA. I think maybe I landed something in Google page 1 or 2 but I'm not so sure it's worth the effort. I'm thinking that it's better to put that content effort in your site. There used to be a huge push to post there! I was never really sold on it. Tried HubPages too but never saw much come out of it. I do know a guy here at WA that had his family involved in doing some stuff through HubPages and actually made some nice little cash there back in the day.

Heh, things are always changing, no? Content is gonna get hard to come by for a while, we got really busy at work all of a sudden! Should give me some new material to blab about though. :)

Yah, like you weren't busy enough already! Drink plenty of water and pop your vitamins like a good boy...LOL!

Heh, right? My kids get mad when I steal their dinovites!

Hey that is kinda cold... stealin' their dinovites...LOL!
Talk to ya' next week when we get home from FS!

Sure thing, have funnnn!!!

Ey there Cass... got back last night around 9 or so. Doggone they worked us out there. Pretty good training for presenting from the holster to bringing it back to rest.

Covered the three normal malfunctions and how to clear the weapon. Went through around 200 rounds. I think there were a couple other guys there carrying Shields but I think theirs were 9mm opposed to my .40. I probably should have just used my full sized .45 for ease of presenting, firing and returning. The safety on my Shield is a small little bugger and was real hard to manipulate with my firing hand and I had to use my support hand quite a bit on it which was pretty awkward.

All in all, pretty interesting couple of days! Sheriff qualification training in 8 days or so... o-:

Sounds fun, you can do it! My 45 was eating a hole in my pocket, so I grabbed a couple .22 pistols! What a hoot! Sounds like a bunch of hoops to jump thru for a cc permit. I think in NM all you have to do is take a class and show them you can shoot a target. I was going to do that, but I don't carry, so it would have been pointless.

I just went through the Sheriff Dept application and the DOJ application today. All I need to do now is make a couple of photo copies and fill out my 'Cause' declaration. A week from today is the qualification training so I'm getting close!

Yah, I do love shooting Patty's M&P .22. That thing is sweet... it's just pure pleasure! I kinda like her GP100 too... sweet .357!!!

Here in Riverside County ya' have to fill out the two apps, go in for an interview with them, go through a training class, qualify with each weapon on your permit at 7 yards, 10 yards and then at 15 yards emptying out your mag at each of the three distances. When all of this is complete and you're accepted ya' have to get fingerprinted. Then ya' still have to wait for your permit to through the different agencies and find its way back to you!

Sounds like the govnt hard at work! Do this and go here, and when you get there they ask for something not even relating to what the first guy said so you basically start over, then when you get sent back to the first one they are confused as to why you did what you did and make you fill out something else not related to anything so far, then they send you off to see someone else....

Dang dude... you've been on that train too, huh? Got the passport pics done today and I'm thinking that there can't be too much more they can possibly spring on me!

Ha, you'd be surprised! Disorganized mess is what that is!

Yup it is... I'm just hoping I'll catch a break in all of it and my stuff will get processed quickly. A big 'ol chunk of it will be getting my weapon qualification done this weekend. Just talked to a guy at SureFire a few minutes ago... swears that I'm gonna have a great time during the two days of training. Sure, just give me a passing grade and we can call it a good time!!!

You'll be super lucky if that happens! Might as well have fun with it either way. LOL.

Yup, planning on enjoying it. Just finished dry practicing for a half hour, packed the 45, ammo and everything else needed and will pack the 40 in the morning once we're up and getting ready to head out the door. Should be massively informative and quite tasty(-;

Sweet! I'm assuming you are all set now? Is that for open carry or concealed?

Wow, very intensive two days, Cass! Naw it's for concealed. All qualified with certificate in hand. Doggone was it interesting... still have tons of stuff just rolling around in the brain. I can't wait to go back for some more training when I scrape a little more cash together!

So... you got the permit then? What is the "more training" for then? I remember reading an article about Navy SEALs, they were saying the average SEAL on an average day goes thru 5000 rounds! I can't even imagine popping off that many rounds, unless it was from an automatic. No wonder they're good shooters...

Not quite permitted yet... went through the interview this morning at 8, got fingerprinted around 11 and got the file completed by noon. Now it's just waiting for the prints to run through the DOJ along with my DOJ app while my Sheriff's app is getting processed through the Sheriff's Dept. Probably be another 3 to 4 months before I get the call to come pickup my permit. Riverside county is going berserk with permit requests. Interviews are into January 2018 now.

I go through 200 rounds and I'm whipped, usually have a headache from the electronic headset. 5000 rounds.... gotta be a real man for that!

Yep, takes a special kind of person for any of those spec ops jobs. I'm way too lazy for all that nonsense, LOL. Geezzz, they take your blood and cotton swab your mouth for DNA too? LOL.

That'll depend on who gets in the white house... yah I can see giving blood for keeping DNA on file. Things are so stinkin' screwed up out here in CA... anything is possible with the idiots that inhabit the coastal cities!

I think it may be a bit deeper than just the coastal cities... I'm not going to discuss politics though. :)

Yup, good idea Cass... don't need any drive-bys occurring in the middle of the night...)-;

At least not at my house!

I'm with ya'!

Heh, just don't hide behind me...I'm a pretty soft target!

Alrighty, that is funny... I'm definitely relating to ya'... ain't nothing solid here anymore!

Maybe we can find a tree to get behind. I've noticed they're easier to hide behind after they are cut down...

Ya' but ya' gotta dive and hit the ground to get under it or behind it... my elbows and knees are getting too tender...(whine, whine, whine)>)-:

You could always wait for me to hit the ground first, then you have some padding down there. LOL, just watch out for the gonies.

Ohhhh man.... yah, I'll strategically plan my landing...LOL!!!!

Whew! TGFT!

Too funny... gotta tell ya' though, my cross wind landings are a little sketchy... any cross winds and all bets are off... prepare for a hard landing...(-;

Oh, I didn't know you were a sail! shouldn't be too hard of a landing then. Maybe... I can catch your tail and we can para sail away!

Funny... but, speaking of para sailing... For several months all I could think of was getting one of those para motors. But alas, Patty just couldn't deal with me soaring through the skies hanging from a parachute with an engine and a prop strapped to my back. Go figure, ey???

What's not to like? If your motor dies you already have a parachute deployed! I'd like to give it a go or two... and a wingsuit too. Those look like they are loads of fun. I was looking at a little airplane a few years back that could land on water and be used as a boat. You could also land on land. I forget the name, but I just saw one on line not too long ago. Looked like a blast!

Wingsuit... naw... not enough control on those things. How do ya' get to the ground with those things anyway... parachute???

Love to see that little airplane myself... you can use it as a boat?

Wingsuits have plenty of control... just check out some base jump wingsuit dives on the ol YT. Those would be a bit too much fun, but they are great to watch! Yeah, they land by parachute.

Hmm, let's see if I can find it... I think I did if it will ever load... Yep, found it! It's still way bad assed too! http://iconaircraft.com/

This one looks pretty cool too... https://gearjunkie.com/mvp-airplane-boat-camper

Wow, just checked out the MVP video... now that would be some fun camping! I'd have to fish a bit larger stream than I'm used to but I reckon I could get used to it. Not sure if I could bring much firewood after throwing my ice chest and Kaylee dog in there but I sure would like to find out!

Give me the MVP and you can keep the wingsuits... them buggers are just a heartattack waiting to happen...LOL!!!

Yep, what a rush it would be though! LOL. You have a chainsaw... why would you try to load a bunch of firewood? Either of those planes would be freaking awesome! I think I would go with the icon and pack a tent... it just looks fancy and cool! Do a lot of planes have a digital dash like that one? I notice your wife didn't have a place to sit... LOL.

Yah, ya' got a point as long as it's dry enough to burn. Naw, that dash looked a little strange but yah, the gauges now days are so much different than the old steam gauge six packs. There's definitely a little bit of a learning curve upgrading to today's 'Glass' dashes!

If ya' look real close you'll see a stick and rudder pedals on the right side... but definitely not for the wifey... no faith in my flying abilities whatsoever!

Well, tell her you guys can just crash on a lake so she needs to wear her life vest when flying with ya! I'd say to get her into some classes, but then I'm sure you would hear all the things you are doing wrong every time you fly. LOL. Oh, and just about anything will burn with enough gas on it! ;-) I wanna go, can you fly by and pick me up? I wont touch the controls without your permission, scout's promise! LOL.

Ya know Cass, I did take her up with an instructor a few times and just sat in the back. She taxied out to the runup, went through the pre flight runups, took off and flew around a little. Then she flew us back into the pattern, turned onto base and then started descending on final... finally the instructor took the yoke and set us down. She actually did really well... just way to nervous at the yoke... spooked being in the air!

Yah, at 105 knots it might take me a while to get back there but when I do... you're gonna touch the controls alright... I'm gonna need some sleep so as soon as we get to cruising altitude, I'm out like a light. Just keep your hands off the controls, your feet off the pedals and respond to flight following when they check in with us...LOL!!!

Randy, I am glad you brought up this subject. I was considering adsense.

Yup, I've had adsense on my C&FC; website since the first it's creation but have never made a cent on it yet... really can't say that it's worth it, Dick. I reckon I'll just wait for a few months and then revisit the YouTube aspect of it. Sure wish Audrey would chime in and let us know how she's doing with it!!!

I've been video marketing for years and never used adsence, you would need hundreds of thousands of views to make any money. Complete waste of time in my opinion.

Best thing to do is get people off YouTube and get them to your site and the let your site make the sale. I use YouTube as a traffic source not for monitization.

You can have links right inside your video. Set up your External Annotations in your YouTube channel to have these links.

BTW, Leo, I have about 20 videos on my channel, ext. annotations etc but still find it extremely diff. to get a visit to my site. I asked Nathaniel since he has about 200 videos and he told he has never received a good traffic from youtube. What do you think?

P.S. I received almost 2000 visits to my channel since November 2014 and only 3 visits to my site from my channel

Now... that is excellent info, Leo! Thank you very much!

It all depends on your video, how you're enticing people off YouTube and so on

For example I'm in one niche and all I do is videos for it - no content, and on average I get 400 visits to my site each day from it.

And this has translated into a mid 4 figure income from this site alone.

It does work.

Thank you Leo. It would be fine if you can create a tutorial or a training explaining the best and proven way how to entice people off YouTube.

Nice, Leo!!!

I know what Adsense does and people can make some money through it,however I would not hold my breath on earning money through you tube unless you get 1,000,s of hits.
I recorded myself playing the piano on it a few years ago and I had joined the partner programme, monetized my videos but then again it depends what the subject is on,If you can produce real good content that is engaging to folk you may make it work but I know it is harder than one thinks.

Kinda what I was thinking myself, Tom! Thank ya' partner!
