Just Hatin' on S. A. Right About Now!

So, I just spent the last 3 hours putting together my second article for Street Articles per Kyle's instruction in Level 3 Lesson 1 of Getting Started. Admittedly, I already had an ever-so-slight chip on my shoulder. I had previously decided that I would probably need a little extra encouragement before ever getting involved with S.A.because of all the stories I've read here about people getting rejected and having a difficult time getting published.

But, when Kyle had us do our first one in Level 2 training, I said, "OK, I'll put the attitude aside, get with the program and do as Kyle says". Well, sure enough, I had gotten about a third of it written and been hitting the 'Save Draft' button when I inadvertently Googled something without opening a new tab. Yup, ya'll guessed it! I hit the 'Back' arrow to find that the content area of S.A. was totally blank.

That's when I remembered Kyle or Carson saying to always back your work up on something else. Well, that's when I started doing exactly that. Later I did get it done, using Word as my backup. But then came the rejections and at a point, Kyle shared with me that sometimes when copying from Word to S.A., it may inadvertently copy code that will trigger something in S.A. that will ultimately lead to a rejection.

So today, after struggling like crazy with my previous and first offering, I thought, well, I'll start everything in S.A. and then occasionally back it up in Word. I had been chugging along, had backed up my first 300 or so words in Word when I did exactly what I did the first time! I Googled my buns in between a rock and a hard place.

S.A. content area was totally empty. I had consistently been hitting the 'Save Draft' button throughout the whole time and shouldn't have lost more than 30 or 40 words. The worst part is that I lost my thought process and structure. Actually that's why I'm here and not there. Since my mind is totally blank, I thought I would just type something.

Too funny, huh! Hoping your day is better than mine. And, actually, I am out in the backyard, watching all the birds play, enjoying a slight breeze and taking an occasional dip to stay cooled off.

Wow, I guess, all in all, it's not that bad, huh? I wonder if Mama's got anything I could throw on that grill over there?

Hmm, thanks Kali, that would work easily for me!

Been there. I love MS Word and I save it as Rich Text so all the formatting characters are stripped out. I then copy it over to SA and haven't had a problem. I do the same thing with all my blogs and website updates.

Kali

I've had something similar happen to me. I created my articles in Word then copied them to my Wordpress page and they didn't save. It also happened on Street Articles. Kyle had recommended that I copy over into Notepad to remove any hidden code and then copy/paste into Street Articles or Wordpress. Worked like a charm. I save all my articles in Notepad now. Hope this helps.

Yup, I've tried it a few times now. I'm still getting the "No Affiliate Link" thing. Can't promote my webpages if I can't put a link in there!

As others said.. best is to use Google Drive.

Thanks Chris... downloaded and ready to ROCK!!!

Yup, I can always count on you to see the good in everything, Kymee! Them there Brauts were doggone good too! Alrighty, I'm heading over to Google right now! Much obliged!

Like Craig said you should try Google Drive. The best part of the program is it saves automatically the whole time you are writing. Once you try it you will be glad to did

Sorry I really know what that feels like.;O(

I bet it will be even better the next time ;O)

Blessings
Kyme

You might have missed the birds and brauts

Welcome to the club, I had the same problem back then:)

Thanks Nenita! Got any good fixes?

I'm back writing with pen and paper, lol.

Hmmm, manual labor... I like it Nenita!!!

I have done similar things in SA too! You are not the only one.

Reckon I'm in good company! (-:

I know word is tempting but I gave up on it a while back. Now I use the Google Drive account that is free when you sign up with Google. Since you have to set up an account for Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools anyway, you might as well set up your Google Drive account at the same time.

If you decide to use word. Saving the document as a .txt file strips all of the nasty formatting out. Then you can copy and paste normally.

Excellent Craig. I'll go check out Drive right now. I just submitted my second article at SA and it's giving me the same message as the first article regarding "No Affiliate Links...". I still can't figure that one out except that it disappears when I take out any link to my website. Then again, if I can't insert links to my website, what purpose is there in posting to SA? Ya' think I'm missing something??? LOL!!!

Putting in affiliate links is forbidden . You need to enter your links as part of the content. Just link a word and put your link there. Choose a word that is related to the destination page. This is called natural linking and is the only way that SA allows you to link.

Highlight the word or phrase, click on the chain link at the top of the edit window and enter your URL for the destination page.

Thanks Craig... that's what I had originally done, made it all natural. But Kyle said that SA must have detected that I had some YouTube vids in my wesite and considered them to be affiliate links. Not sure what to do because I really would like to keep the YouTube videos on the page that they're on. The only link that will work is my .com home page and that's it. Any other page sets off the error. Thank you for getting back to me on this!

I can empathize with you Randy. So frustrating when you loose work and writing doesn't come easy to many of us.

I often use the rapid writer here at WA and then send it on over to SA once I've finished writing. I still do back ups in word though. I've learned this the hard way too. Maybe you could take up a little saying for yourself - "think before you click."

When you're writing content have the mindset that you could loose it all at any second:) Keep backing up. After all, creating a piece of writing for the internet is actually an important work. You are creating something that will sit there and mature and serve you for a long time. Writing is a valuable activity, hard to bring to birth. I'm Just saying these things as this is what I've had to realize through my own frustrating experiences like the one you just wrote about.

Remember too that a high standard at SA means benefits for us in the long run. It takes time to get to know how SA works and what's required but once you come to an understanding of it it's not so hard to get approvals. I've had many rejections in my learning process.

Enjoy those bird sounds and whatever you threw on that grill.
Robbie :)

ps Now get back to writing your masterpiece, with back-ups :)
pss it would be good i think if that "save draft" button was looked in to as it doesn't give you any confirmation that you've been saved after the first initial save and it is a bit disconcerting:)

Too funny, I was just over at your profile page!!!

Thank ya' for the great info. It's really weird because in just about everything else that I do in my world of writing, I always back it up. In fact, most of the time I create in Word first and then copy over.

But this time I thought I'd heed Kyle's words about Word insert junk code into SA content and just do it all in SA. Guess I learned a stiff lesson this time!

Incidentally, my sweetheart had a package of brats in the freezer! The 'ol barbie's still hot!

Thanks again Robbie... I really appreciate ya'!
