hey all....i changed my theme and now the comments i have reverted to the generic "hi! this is a comment" garbage. i can still see the actual comment on the dashboard but the s

I suggest first a change back to the theme you had and make sure your comments are actually there. Perhaps you can then do a search on Google asking if others experience a problem with the theme you changed to. It would be odd if you are the only one.

So they are not lost. Perhaps you have to enable them. Please check if this helps: If this does not help go back to the old theme or try anther.

This has been done. I also went in, unapproved, approved again. to no avail. I was hoping not to have to go back to the old them. I appreciate your help.

In Wordpress, Settings > Discussion > Automatically close comments on articles older than XX days to longer than what it says now, say 120 days instead of 90 days.... Even the option box is not checked.

This logically doesn't make sense, but it worked for me (WA support advised me to do this)....

Of course it may not work for you, but just another idea to try...
Ray

thank you, i'll give it a shot

apologies in advance for what's probably going to be a long post.
regarding my niche...I love music, listen all the time, play classical piano, learning guitar, can't live w

You site isn't just about making money. Informing and helping your reader is (should be ) your main focus. You already noted where you can monetize (including the books on the more scientific side).

So the posts on the "scientific will be informational, with a few sprinkled links to your other pages promoting more of the money making products you showcase.

Does that make sense?

~Debra

yes, that makes sense, but I'm still unable to find any similar type sites when I search google so I'm having trouble leveraging any sites for the purposes of setting up/formatting content.

If you can't find other sites within your niche try looking at a niche that is closely related. For instance, music is within the artistic scope. So is performing arts and creative arts. You might try looking at websites in those niches.

Hope that makes sense.

~ Debra

thank you!

When I created my site, according to the tutorial the following PlugIns should have been the default: Aksimet, SEO, CAPTCHA, and Exclude Pages from Navigation.

I used the

I think one very essential plugin that you must have in order to make the building of your website a lot easier is Beaver Builder.

It's a nice drag and drop plugin that makes building websites so much fun! Check it out, and tell me if you like it:

Keep Smiling!

I wouldn't use Askimet, it's rubbish. Check out my blog and even now I still don't get spam!

great, thanks for the input!

I totally agree, Lady May, I wouldn't waste my time with Askimet. It wasn't even one of my defaults either.

As far as I am aware the WPSpamShield is now being used in place of Akismet.. so do not worry about that one now,,,

Click here for more info :)

Terrific! Thanks for the link, I didn't find this when I searched for plugin info :)

No worries... always a pleasure to help :)

I should correct my original post - I tried to install CAPTCHA but it wouldn't let me since I'm not Premium - any thoughts about fixing this issue?

If you install the new wp spam-shield listed in the above link you won't need the captcha plugin :)

so it takes the place of both captcha and aksimet?

Yes, if you scroll down the comments on the page posted here. Kyle says you can do away with Captcha. That's exactly what I've done and everything is running fine

Great! Thanks so much! :)

I'm trying to come up with my niche - I love art and music but I'm also a science nerd - hence my user name. ;)

I would be interested in a site that includes info on lis

Hi,

I wonder how you've been doing since this march 2016 post. I just started and I am looking in a "similar"direction (music - sound - art - engineering, have not figured it out yet). I can imagine in your case it all boils down to the very specific way of aligning these components. I wonder if you found your way.
Anyway, good luck.
Rene

No, sounds cool to me. You could make it like a coffee bar or some deal like that. You could promote music, wireless systems, speakers even coffee..lol I think it would work especially if the layout was niche oriented.

coffee bar ...cool idea ;)

First off, sweet username! Second, no I don't think it's too esoteric. There's subsections of people all over the internet, I'm sure there's an audience that loves how chemicals react in our brains. Or even people that are willing to learn (like me). It's an interesting topic for sure and would definitely work.

Besides, from your post it seems like that won't be the only thing on your website, so you could be drawing in two types of audiences at once with information for songs and artists and maybe expanding people's horizons.

While I was in school I learned that everyone recognized the main themes in songs whether it was happy, sad, or scary themes (even when they didn't have a common language to speak) everyone had the same reaction to the instrumental playing. Then it went in depth about how our brains recognize and react to certain types of music and I thought it was awesome.

Rant over. In other words, nope not too narrow. You got this! Good luck!

thanks! I don't think it's a rant - more like free association!
