Where to Find Inspiration for your Writing

I see so many members wondering how on earth they're going to find enough to write about. If a blog post is supposed to be about 1000 words, and you need a lot of posts to demonstrate healthy activity for your rankings . . . well, it can sure seem daunting to a lot of people.

In a former life, I was a writer. I had to write on deadline, so I didn't have time to twiddle my thumbs wondering what on earth to write about. I had to CREATE methods to garner inspiration for my articles.

One thing I did was keep a notepad on my person at all times. When someone asked a question or shared a thought that seemed particularly intriguing, I would jot it down. For example, I needed an article about being held captive (to go along with a current news article that was going by at the time.) At a church gathering, a friend of mine just happened to mention that his brother had been on a plane that had been hijacked, and that they'd been held captive for about 3 days on this plane. Presto! Jotted down his name, address, phone and got the background I needed for my article.

I get other inspiration off of other baking websites I peruse. I see new products touted, or I see questions that keep popping to the top of the blog roll with hundreds of responses. I know those are going to be hot topics, so I make note of them.

I get inspiration, too, out of social media sites like Facebook or Google+. It doesn't even have to be about baking - it can be ideas for what to do when you're stuck inside during bad weather, or how to get to know your neighbors, or throwing a dinner party. All of those have avenues to insert a little twist about baking, and that's all you really need.

And finally, I sit down with Jaaxy and feed in some of these article ideas to winnow out the ones that just aren't worth my while. It's the same thing an editor does when he's trying to figure out what articles will sell. Don't be afraid to have several articles with the exact same keyword - look how many articles are out there about popular singers or actors! Hammer it, if it's working for you.

You are a writer - but it takes discipline and technique to get it done.
