Time to Start a New Website

So, I've thought a lot about it, and I think it's time to start another web site with a new niche. I've been running this one for 8 months and it's going well. I update it with a new recipe once a week or so, and I'll keep that up easily. I'm getting around 20 sessions a day. My ad clicks this month are around 350 on eBay and 175 on LinkShare. I can't do Amazon, as I live in Colorado - and that probably really hurts me on sales. Sigh. Oh well, not much I can do about that.

I'd like to start another site that will take up some of the slack that my baking site loses in the summer. My plan is to start back at the beginning with the WA training - go through it all step-by-step again to set up my second site. I have several niche ideas running through my head, but I find the questions WA puts you through really helps clarify your ideas. I want something completely unrelated to my first site, so it will probably require a different theme and a completely different set of affiliate vendors. But, with all I've learned, I think I'll be able to run through it all MUCH faster this time around!

With my Premium membership, I get multiple website hosting, so if I'm ready, now is the time to take advantage of that. I've proven to myself I can easily manage one site. I've learned a lot about the ins and outs of an online business, what to expect and what to plan for. And I have the energy I need to take on another set up right now. So here we go. Excelsior!

I am thinking about creating a new website also even though I have only been here going on 3 month. I don't think my website is getting any hits, except from myself so I am thinking I need something that will trigger a larger population or is it keywords? Before I research for my next website could you please take a quick look at my current website (cobolfordummies.org) and maybe give me some pointers that would be wonderful. What do you think....Is that a good idea or not at this time to create a new niche or continue with what I have?

The population writing COBOL is probably pretty small to begin with, so yeah, starting a new site might not be a bad idea. Depending on how much work it is, you can always add more to the COBOL site, now that it's up and running. And yes - research keywords.

You don't happen to know how to program iOS? Because that is HOT right now . . . just an idea.

Well, that is the point here. To have ideas for other sites and interests. Your cobol site is good but will have a more limited audience. I think at first we are challenged by not getting hits but we just have to keep working at it. If you really want to reach people who would be interested in Cobol, keep the site but you could possibly start another with a wider audience. Then later you would have wto good sites but one may be more profitable than another.

Nope, don't know IOS wish I did. Yes, you are correct that COBOL has a limited population so that is why I am really trying to think of something more exciting, but right now not sure what that would be so I will just continue on the lessons until something pops into my mind that I want to work on. The light bulb here just won't stay on...lol!

Maybe step back a bit for a bigger picture. What problem does COBOL solve? It had to have been created for a reason - but it's just a tool to solve a problem. Perhaps THAT'S the bigger audience you need.

People need databases - everyone uses them, but they don't always know it. My church for example, uses one for membership, but they have NO IDEA how to really use it. They've just handed it down from one person to another "push this key and enter it into THAT field" etc. They wouldn't know how to create a personalized letter if it killed them not to.

Or, people use the wrong tool completely. How many databases are on Excel spreadsheets? JILLIONS. Why? Because people have no idea how to use one.

Just some thoughts - sometimes asking a lot of "why" questions can pull you back to a bigger issue, with a MUCH bigger audience.

Now you got me thinking, but I really would love to get my husband involved in my next website, this way he knows what I am spending a few hours on during the weekend and why I answers emails now and then.. I am still thinking of a great niche just don't know what yet. Thanks again for your input!

I have a question for you. Are you now doing this full time or are you still working a day job. Also if you can find the time I wold appreciate your feed back on my site if possible http://photogeartipsandtricks.co.uk/ I am still very new to this and would appreciate any pointers you can give. Thanks!

I'm retired, so in a sense, yes, I'm full-time. But in reality, I spend maybe one day a week really working on the site. I check out the comments daily, but that takes maybe five minutes. I read cooking blogs regularly, but I would have done that anyway, so I don't count that. I'll check out your site.
