My Google Search Console Impressions are Whacked

Last Update: March 12, 2019

So, anyone have any ideas on why my Google impressions would be doing this? My impressions on posts are dropping like a rock. And then suddenly there's a bizarre spike. I've never seen this in years of using SEO. Any clues would be helpful.

Is this for your food website? If so, it may be more of season trend you are looking at. I have a fun food website that has the most traffic right around Christmas when people are looking for recipes for xmas eve and xmas day I've seen that spike two years in a row. That is my busiest week of the year.

On a different search, when I tried to get it verified for Google Maps, I had a weird one day spike, similar to the one that you saw on Feb 7.

After analyzing a MOZ link report last night, another theory of the Feb and March spike, is that maybe some website does their "crawl" and link on those days. I noticed lots of links from some company out of Denver that takes pictures of website pages to show website histories...

Best wishes!

p.s. I looked at your food website last weekend. It looks awesome.

Blush! Thanks. It’s been a labor of love. And good comments too. I’ll work on emphasizing more seasons to try to capture other peak times.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with seasons. When Jaaxy uses data, what are they pulling from to determine Traffic? How far back does that data go? Will a keyword search in March be different from a keyword search in November?

Don, I used to be a data analyst/visualizer in my most recent job (the one I left) and looking at what you presented it most likely is seasonal...depending on your niche that is. These data is what many businesses work on to plan strategies for next budgets or sales targets.

Thank you, that makes me feel better. But also motivated to beef things up. :)

Hello,
I do not miss anything in your impressions are ok. Maybe you have to improve the seo by your average position 35.5

Well, they aren't ok. They've been steadily dropping for months, with some of my most popular posts dropping from over 6000 to basically zero. I have no idea what's going on.

Hi Don,

I would suggest to compare views from a previous month or so... Use a compare tab and there will be a column called difference. Sort it so you can see a negative number and this will tell you which posts and keywords are now in decline and you can investigate further. Let me know if you need help with this.

See attached.

PS mine is in different language but it will be same for you

Thanks - so here is the comparison. Any idea why the sudden drop-off over three months? It's strange. I know Google changed something to do with canonical posts beginning Jan 1, but not sure how this could have impacted me.

Don, i would suggest you to have a look on URLs and see which posts have been affected. What i can see is that the top keyword dropped significantly. So if you have been on the first spot for it Google it and see what has been changed there. Some of your competition might have created a mega useful content.

Also, if these posts are old i would revise them and edit a published date to a recent one and crawl them again in console and see what happen.
