Today I would like to talk about passwords. I think that a lot of folks like to use easy passwords that they can easily remember. The problem with that is both humans and computers can guess these passwords fairly easy.
Here's a scenario as an example. Gloria has a daughter named Amber and she was born in 2011. Gloria is a single mom and is always online doing this and that. Gloria finds it irratating that every site she makes an account for has to be password protected so she just uses the number one thing she wont forget her daughters name.
She always uses Amber11 for ALL her passwords.
Josh is a bad sneaky computer hacker. He finds Gloria on Facebook and starts working at her. After a few days of chating on Facebook Josh learns that Gloria has a daughter named Amber and she is six years old.
Gloria wasn't worried about her passwords and Josh wasn't on social media to be social. After Josh got his information he was able to login to Glorias accounts rather easy with the information Gloria provided him.
Gloria has been a victim of social engineering and now all her accounts have been compromised.
The better thing to do when making a password is to make a password phrase. Using the first letter of all the words in the phrase you can create a dynamic password.
Here's an example that Gloria could use to better protect herself.
Password phrase - I Love my daughter Amber and her goofy smile
New password - ILmdAahgs
This is both easy to remember and very hard for hacker to break apart. You can also add a special character to the end of it if you need to fill special requirements for creating the password. Like this - ILmdAahgs!!
