Have just started adding videos to my posts

Last Update: October 12, 2019

After watching hundreds of videos from other people, i've finally dipped my toes into the murky waters of YouTube.

I'm not at all confident in front of a camera, but I took advantage of some quiet time to practice in front of my phone and i've managed to produce 3 'talking head' videos for a few of my blog posts, between 2 and 7 minutes long.

I found it surprisingly easy to talk to the camera without notes, but I still don't like watching myself! I think the videos are a bit basic and don't have any fancy graphics or anything (just me). Baby steps yet. 😂

How have you all taken to video? Have you done any yet? Does it scare you? Do you get tongue-tied and dry up? Do you not dare do it, or are you a veteran? Do you have any tips?

Please share, i'd love to know how many of you 'do video'.

Regards,

Dave

I've dipped my toes in, and now MUST dive in!!
The challenge for me is to keep from repeating myself or saying "uh, so...."

CONGRATULATIONS on the 'dipping in'

Hi Shaunna,

I have to calm myself down, I can’t do the ratt-tatt-tatt delivery that some can do. This probably makes me look boring, but i’m talking with no notes, so am thinking what to say next!

I’m getting the hang of it though. 😂

I've struggled with video. I guess I am camera shy. I joined Toastmasters to help, and it has. I suppose I will do some video soon.

Congrats David. I’m just going to stick at it. I can’t have anyone watching me though as I do it. That just puts me off. 😏

I’d be the same! I do videos but animation ones... where you don’t see me but from interesting clips I’ve put together from renderforest.. I do the voice over but that’s the best I can do.. too self conscious.. congrats on this! A great step!

I’m thinking it’s all about practice. I wish I could look as cool as Jay does on his webinars! 😎

Same here! I have started to do videos with pictures and animations. I don’t even do the voice over, just text and music…baby steps…I’ll get there.

I know exactly what you mean Dave. I really do not like the sound of my own voice and get tongue tied all the time.

However, a short while back a product came out called Extempore which enables you to put a script on your phone for when you are doing videos talking into your phone (or ipad as well). You simply look at the screen and the words scroll up at a speed to suit you.

The words don't show up on the finished video. You can then use the video wherever you want.

After a couple of goes you start to sound normal (not wooden) and it really cuts out the tongue tied aspect.

I haven't used it for a month or so, but that is down to other projects. Your post has reminded me to start doing them again.

Cheers

Jon

Hi Jon, yes i’d come across that. I think it would always sound like I was reading it tbh. I found that if I totally digest the post i’m doing the video for and take my time, I can easily talk for 5 mins+ about it.

I am looking forward to responses you get on this. Part of my next phase as well. One bit of advice I saw in a course was to place cue cards up to keep the dialogue going. Gene

Cue cards might work well, yes. I’ll maybe try that for the next one.

Cheers.
