Amazon progression - 2020 versus 2019

Last Update: December 08, 2020

Hi folks, I hope everyone is fine in these difficult times.

What has become apparent in the last 6 months is how the World has moved it's shopping habits online and how this has benefited us hugely.

Now, the main products on my ecommerce site have always been sold online rather offline, but i'm sure i've benefited too from the upsurge in popularity of Amazon.

Here's my results for 2019

I managed 1,380 clicks in 2019, sold 74 items with a value of £2,596.73 and a commission of £146.49. Whilst this wasn't too shabby, I knew I had to improve.

My tactic was to try to improve the rankings of a) each individual product page, and b) optimise my site with better internal linking and calls to action.

Here's the results so far in 2020.

Clicks are up to 5,742 in 2020 so far. I've sold 368 items with a value of £12,837.45 for a commission of £763.78. October (this month) has just become my best month of 2020 and my best month overall with Amazon since I started as an affiliate. It could be my first ever £200 month.

I'm going to be close to £1,000 in commissions by the end of the year I think. That'll be a 684% increase on 2019.

I think that's quite a successful growth result, all down to optimisation methods. It shows how working on this can catapult commissions.

Dave.

UPDATE

It's now 8th December and I have an update. It's even better than I projected in October.

Clicks : 8,744

Items Sold : 559

Shipped Items Revenue : £18,174.40

Commission : £1,042.53

AND THERE'S STILL 23 DAYS TO GO !!!

Many congrats indeed. Success stories like yours are really motivational. Do you see this as sustainable with the lower commissions rates they are paying?

Wishing you a profitable and successful week ahead.

Hi Trevor.

Commission rates are unchanged in the UK (at the moment). I’ll just keep on keeping on 😎

Hi Dave,

Thank you for sharing this inspiring post.
I'm wondering if you know some training on how to start an e-commerce site, I'm so much interested in doing one as well.

Best,
Lyn

Hi Lyn,

Do you know what you’re going to sell? My ecommerce shop is part of a blog. I post regularly to the blog (weather niche) to generate visitor interest, then push the shop subtlely when they’re there. I also attract traffic via traditional SEO. The store is set up with the WooCommerce plugin. It’s very easy to then include affiliate products.

Have you searched to see if there’s any training here already? I’d be very surprised if there isn’t.

Hi Dave,

Thank you so much for the kindness in replying and providing the link as well.

I'll go over and find out if I can do it.

Once more, thank you!

Warm regards,
Lyn

Nice one Dave.
And don’t forget that these results are even better because Amazon reduced their commission rates this year.

We sell a tiny bit on Amazon and recently sold some badminton racquets in the Sports and Outdoors category ( cookied as we don’t sell in that category) and we only got 1.5%

How times have changed

Keep up the great work.

Wishing you every success
