I know the recommendation in Site Rubix is for 1000+ words, but is it detrimental to go with more frequent 500 word articles, or to post up something in the 2000+ range on an o

While there is the advice of a certain amount of words in a post, you have to still try to write that what you need to write. If you feel you are trying to just fluff your articles up to make your wordcount, you are better off publishing your post without the fluff and with a lower wordcount.

On one of my sites I have plenty of 500-800 word articles and they also will rank in due time.

It is rather funny though, Google wants to see words and content, while visitors rather prefer a shorter article. While that is true, in the same time people who get a 3000 word article, will skim for the stuff they want or not want to read.

Most important is to get your message out.. whether that be 500 words or 1500 words.

Thank you, Steven! You raise a very good point, and exactly what was behind my question. I know that I tend to skim. I was an English major, so I cannot bring myself to fluff a piece up. I'd rather it be short and on point. Very good insight!

Great question and responses. Thanks for sharing

Hey there!

Good question. I have done a bit of research on this myself and here is my opinion...

In general I personally aim anywhere from 800 to 1000 words per article. Many of my articles are around 1200 words with some as low as 600 to 800.

One of the most famous SEO websites recommends anything over 300 words. However...

It all depends what keywords you want to rank for. SEO is complex and there are lots of things to take into consideration. If you want to rank No.1 for a particular keyword then word count is something to consider. You are not likely to outrank a 2000 word article with a 500 word article. No matter how good it is.

My advice would be to write naturally and aim to create more quality content that gives relevant information without going on for too long just for the sake of making a massive post.

Google takes many things into consideration when ranking you. Both the amount of posts and the amount of content both plays a part in your ranking. Longer posts do tent to rank better, but there are other SEO tricks that you can use too...

Take a look at this link... Hope that helps!

Thank you, Andrew! I appreciate the thorough response and the link. I'll put that to good use! I am very comfortable with writing naturally, and have always made that a hallmark of the content I produce. I am definitely looking at this in terms of strategy for producing more content more frequently.

Sometimes, I feel like I am slowing myself down by trying to make sure every article is 1K+. So that's why I asked about whether there are negative effects on ranking by posting articles with less than that.

The information you and the others here have provided give me confidence in not worrying so much about the 1K+ word count.

Thanks again!

No problem, I'm pleased to help! Just ask if you ever need anything.

There is no fast rules on that but people see article more than 1,200 words are better chance to get ranked. I personally saw a short articles of 500 words get ranked too.

You don't want to keep it the same for all the articles. Mixed them but at least 350 words minimum.

The logic to have long articles is that you might not rank for the keyword you are targeting to rank but with a lot of content there are chances for other keywords within the same article to get ranked too.

Thank you, Joe! Yes, I kind of figured that much less than 500 words wouldn't be terribly useful for ranking purposes, so I'll keep your advice in mind. And it is good to know that one of your shorter articles got ranked!

I've always shot for 1200-1500+. I think that's a good bar to set so you can be consistent with publishing quality content :)

Kyle advised while aim to write 1500+ words per post, but not all of your content is exactly the same length. Write naturally, be thorough, and offer an in-depth explanation of your message is more important and post at least 3 article per week.

I've always liked the quality over quantity approach. I used to get in trouble with my English teacher because I would always have the bare minimum, but still get my message across. Drove her nuts, lol.

I definitely need to develop the discipline to get up to three articles a week. Right now, I'm doing one per week. Time to step it up!
