This question came up in WA's Live Chat and I was at a loss for a definitive answer.

Please enlighten me so I can answer this question when it comes up in the future.

My sister and I share this account. I asked Kyle about it when I joined and he said it was all good.

Excellent!! Thank you :)

I guess each one can build his own website under the same account. I don't see why not. In my case, my girlfriend is not interested in that kind of thing. So I never bother with it. But I don;'t see why it wouldn't be possible.

Thank you for commenting. I appreciate it. All the best to you.

There are a number of husband/wife teams already on WA. The only issue I can see is that they can only have one record of progress through the lessons. You know what I mean, where you mark each task as being done so the system knows where you're up to.

Thanks Marion, good to see you. I can see how that could work out for them. And, with having 25 domain sites between them, they can have their own niche websites. Thank you for clearing this issue up. All the best to you.

My question is the same but would like to know what Kyle thinks of it. I've been told by a couple of members that ir's fine to put family members on as administrator & that'd be great since I'm not 'techie' at all. I'd like to do it, also, in case my relative wants to give it a try. She had her own question about once you publish a blog, is it true it can't be published again anywhere on the net or is that just the community blogs to each other? Our business communications - do we own them and are we able to republish 'down the road'? Thanks for your info.

Yes, it would be great for Kyle to give us a definite answer. And, so it seems one question always leads to others :) Regarding "republishing" blogs, this would be considered duplicate content and the goal is to always have original content on WA blogs and on our websites. So, I don't believe it is necessarily "ownership" that's the issue.

My daughter was just thinking if she wrote a blog and a couple months or years later, she wanted to use it outside of the business, could she? I'm not talking the blogs within the community that your business doesn't see - I know those can't. But, when you set up one or more websites & put content on them, can't you add to them and publish somewhere else or just show 'as is' for an example of your writing? Don't you own that content? Maybe Google wouldn't republish but what if a magazine or another venue would?

It is your content, your authorship, etc. I'm not well versed in internet publishing laws. Magazines spell out what authorship rights are sold -- first rights, second, etc. It's possible you keep those rights -- some have published blog articles in books or e-books. It is an interesting question worth investigation. All the best to you.

If your both doing the website together why not.it under your name.just my oppion.they can read all information.they probly have code to get here but its on your blog.all questions still come from you page.since they would be responding to her but it would not seperate ,her from you.ie j bookbinder.if my son asked question the page does not thinks its him.puter would think its my cause it my page.just my oppion

I understand your point. Thanks for responding.

I'm debating putting it in my header or footer. I can do it in pages, but wonder if it needs to be visible for people to read as a text statement at the bottom of my posts.

I just put a simple statement at the end of each post/page that I add affiliate links to... here is the statement I use;“I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.”
I am hoping that it is sufficient.

According to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) it should be clear and concise and OBVIOUS. Don't hide it. Put it near enough to any affiliate links to be obvious to a potential buyer.

Thank you, that clears it up.

http://www.disclosurepolicy.org A nice place to create your disclosure statements.....then see how they do their policies at the bottom of the page....

Thanks, Rosie! That's very helpful.

Please post when you come up with your final decision....or message me....very interested in what you come up with as a solution!

I will, Rosie. Right now I have it in the menu either top or footer, depending upon the website. Thanks :)

Good question Sharon, thanks for asking it.

I'd like to place one in my right footer but not sure how to.

My theme is iconic one and I can put text in the footer but I'd like to make into hyper text and and make the affiliate policy a hyper link but there doesn't appear to be an editor in view to do that.

Any ideas or am I over thinking things?

Also, is there a standard wording for the policy or do I just make one up?

Thanks, Mark

You have some interesting points I hope someone addresses for you. I can give you Loes Link .

Thanks for that link Sharon, I'll go through that shortly.

Loes always has good trainings so will look forward to doing it.

Thanks again
Mark

I put mine at the top right corner you can view it at www.flamesengingapha.com

Thank you, that was very helpful.

I put mine in the footer menu

Thanks, Jean. I may keep mine there, too.

I have mine on a page in a custom menu within the footer.

Thanks, Kathy, that's where I have mine.

Hi Sharon,

I put mine in the footer and this was suggested to me by a couple of people. It's basically for the affiliate so I did not see the use of putting it in my menu bar at the top of my site. :)

Hi Annick,
Is it in a page in your footer or in a text-type statements for everyone to read?

It's in a page in the footer area.

Depending on the theme (I've switched a few times), I've had it in the footer, and now I have it in the bottom of the sidebar because I don't have footer widgets. I could put it directly in footer.php but I don't want to have to re-do it when the theme is updated.

Hi Gary,
So it's visible for people to read?

Yes, it's a visible link they can click on and read...

Your stats could also demonstrate an opportunity to look and compare the sites and tweak accordingly

Thanks Linda, tweaking is definitely in order :)

All good points, but repeat traffic is possibly expressing an increase in confidence by that person and validates their willingness to return

Thanks for your input, Linda. All the best to you :)

Seems you have a lot of answers already.....repeat traffic helps your 'authority' presence....new traffic shows interest...you really should concentrate on both....not sure if you use 'newsletters' or 'updates' via email....those help build your relationships, too....

Thanks Rosie, excellent suggestions.

You are always welcome ... just as I am always 'thanking' you! :)

My thought on the matter is that it doesn't really matter as long as you are making money. New traffic is good otherwise how would you have returning visitors and those are the people most likely to buy because if they came back again it means they're thinking about it

Good point! Thanks :)

You want both, always new visitors showing up and the number of repeat visitors always growing.

Thanks :)

All traffic is good if it's legitimate. I have a post planned for next week which will discuss the junk traffic you can buy. Always work to get all traffic into your autoresponder so that you can keep contacting them. That's where your profits are sitting.

Great advice! Thanks :)

I think repeat traffic will improve your rankings and new traffic will get you more sales

That's what I'm finding :)

Repeat traffic is great!
better yet is if this traffic also helps to get you referrals!
great job!

Thanks :)

I would agree that repeat traffic is best, but I'm curious which site gets the most sales??

They're all averaging between 3 to 12 sales daily. After the holidays it will taper down to 1 to 2 daily sales. That's been the average. The websites with new traffic seem to generate more sales.

That's interesting!
You would think your repeat visitors would trust you more and there fore more readily buy through you!?!?

Exactly! This internet marketing business is a real puzzle :)

Maybe as the sites get older the ones with repeat traffic will start to out perform the ones with more new visitors?
You'll have to keep us updated!

Thanks, will do.

If you get repeat traffic you are doing something right, so I think repeat traffic tells you that they like what they see and want to come back
If you go to a restaurateur and you like the food and the service you will go back, so if you have repeat traffic see it as a very positive sign that you are building sites that people like

Barry

Couldn't agree more with you!

I completely agree with you, Barry, but my stats seem to be showing the opposite. My best sales record comes from a 19% repeat traffic and 81% new traffic.

If they want you to broaden your niche and you don't, I think you have your answer. Unless sometime in the future you will add more of their products.

Thanks for joining the discussion. I appreciate it. :)

For me, it would greatly depend on exactly 'what' changes would be necessary and why? I belong to a few programs and have never once been asked to 'change' anything....now I'm curious.....

It's unusual for an affiliate to ask for changes to a website. The change was to broaden my niche, which I basically refuse to do. There are plenty of affiliate programs within my niche. Thanks for joining the discussion, Rosie.

Remember, this is to attain YOUR success...what feels good and right to YOU....there are so many affiliate programs out there, you will never miss the ones who try to constrain you.....you go, girl...YOUR WAY!!!!

Thanks, Rosie :)

To change your website to please an affiliate would be like altering your being. It's your baby not theirs. Unless the affiliate is of great importance to you meaning will guarantee more traffic or something that would benefit your Internet presence (I wouldn't bet on that). It would not be worth it. I have affiliate accounts and never has anyone asked to tailor my website. I myself would never do it. That's my take. Good luck!

Thanks. I would think affiliates need us more than we need them, but they seem to hold all the cards. I wish you much success in your online endeavors.

I would only change if this affiliate made you realize your site was somehow lacking or could be improved. Otherwise, unless this affiliate is super important and guaranteed cash in the bank, go with your gut. It's your site, not theirs.

You know there are no guarantees :)

There's not enough information to give an informed answer, but there are almost unlimited affiliate products so I would suggest YOU be in charge. Don't change the site, change the affiliate.

Thank you, that's the direction I'm leaning.

I would not change, there are many other options.
As long as the other affiliate program fits with your
niche you can add a page.
If it does not you can make a sub domain on your domain.
You can also build another website. There is gold in diversification.

My first website, before WA, was a variety of niches. When I came to WA, that website was divided into two websites. I can feel a third spin off and even a fourth, but the time necessary to devote to quality content is a major factor. Thanks for your insight, Ken.

The initial time is consuming. It gets to be very manageable.
And very profitable. Have a fantastic weekend Sharon.

Maybe instead of changing your current site you could do something else. Hard to say without knowing the affiliate but 2 things come to mind: Could you create a new site? I forget what they're called - the ones where there isn't much to them but a few pages. Then link it to your site so you can still offer it. Or maybe create a hidden page? I just was looking at the bootcamp lesson on those last week.
But to answer your question, I don't think it would be worth it. Especially if I had to make big changes. I don't know about you but I love my site and I wouldn't be willing to make any big changes for an affiliate program. Then it wouldn't really be my site, would it? Because it's not the way I originally intended.
I'm going to stop there before I start rambling and going in circles. lol

Thanks, Angela. That's how I felt when I received a suggestion to broaden my niche. I'm not running a department store. I have a specific product niche and it's working for me. It may not play for their retailers. It would have been better for them to tell me my website wasn't a good fit for them.

exactly :)

I don't think you should change your site much, just for the sake of an affiliate program. I have never been asked to 'change my website' for the sake of an affiliate program, however you would have to give me more information for my definitive view.

I agree with you. This affiliate program represents over 1000 retailers. They suggested I broaden my niche to include them. I basically refused to do so. It goes against what I've learned here at WA. Plus, I like my niche. It's working for me. I'm making sales, but I wanted to give my customers the best value. This particular affiliate doesn't seem to be the right fit for me. Thanks for your input.

Like what, Sharon? I have a bunch of programs and I've never been asked to change anything. Curious.

Broaden my niche.

I don't think I would do that, but that's just my opinion. Niches are meant to be specific. A lot of folks who are looking for something specific, might not want to be looking in a site that features tons of other things, too. My opinion again. YMMV

I agree. Thanks, Carla :)

This has always puzzled me, even when I buy themes, it's at the bottom. And, of course, it has nothing to do with hosting -- or does it?

Good question. Thanks

I took it out of my footer with help from Jhen (SERGS). I don't see the harm in taking it out. Carson explained it quite well. Go, Sharon!

Hi Sharon,

You can go ahead and remove any text that you want from your theme. This is not at all related to web hosting, it's just the default dummy text that your theme came with.

You own your website and you can modify it in anyway you like. Removing "powered by wordpress" is by all means OK to remove.

Carson

Thanks for the clarification, Carson.

If you remove it, though, your theme authors might get upset. I know on my Theme, they say leave it there - it's their only "ad" out there. It doesn't bother me.
It just means that you are using Wordpress instead of Blogger or something else.

She's talking about the Powered by WordPress... not the theme creator link - although the two are usually in the same place.

Further, Google has basically de-valued footer links entirely because of theme author abuse like what we see on WordPress. I mean does a theme author REALLY deserve a do-follow link from every.single.page of your site? I don't think so, especially when I pay or make a donation (which I usually do given how hard I search for "good" themes).

When you hear Google refer to the term "Link-Bait" - WP theme author links and (widget / plugin links) are exactly what they are talking about.

It's coded in the footer of your theme. You can edit it out in the theme editor, or leave it in and make the link nofollow.

Thanks! Great advice!
