Do we need to add a cookie consent policy to our websites?
Just in case we do, I have one you can use and rework however you choose:

Thanks for this information. I think that most people need to be educated about the cookie use. i know that when I am visiting a site, I will request that no cookies be saved when offered the option- however after reading the information you have provided, I would not make that choice. It is so much easier when I can just get on the site and move about in the areas where I was before. I did not know the real reason we have cookies, and did not know whose benefit there were there for, or really did not realize how much I was hampering my own visits to certain sites.
Another reason I enjoy this community! Every visit is a learning time!
WA is a great community where you learn something new every day. I like being kept up-to-date on changes. I just came across this information and didn't know if I needed to warn visitors about cookies being collected from my affiliates. Is it my responsibility or that of my affiliates? From the information I've gathered, we're not collecting the cookies so we don't need to have such a notice posted on our websites, but it is covered in our Privacy Policy. I'm confident it doesn't apply to US markets plus our websites aren't collecting cookies -- but we have it covered in our Privacy Policy. With all the changes to Google and who knows what, I know the WA community keeps on top of it. Thanks.
Unless you are targeting European customers, or your site/business is located in Europe...the law does not apply to you.

Although it is a few years old, the above article covers the subject quite nicely.
It can be quite complex regarding EU law. If you use Google Analytics, Adsense etc. there are requirements to follow.

It is my understanding that our sites at WA do not use cookies however, it is in my privacy policy that google ads uses cookies and other third party advertisers may also use cookies.
Of course affiliate programs use them but, they are not a part of our site
Isn't that included in your privacy policy? I'll have to look again. Now I'm hungry for cookies!
It's included in my privacy policy, but I read somewhere that we needed to make it very clear that cookies are collected on our websites including our affiliate links. Maybe I got some bad information. That's why I'm checking it out here.

I think this piece is great and really think it does improve our website by placing this notice there just in case there are visitors who do not know about cookies.
