So, if you haven't yet seen my challenge, and my first update, please see below.

Now, after getting off to a flying start, days three and four went out of the window. Some of you may know that not only am I a freelance writer and proofreader for an agency, but I also do their new writer evaluations. Basically, when they receive applications from potential writers, I am asked to evaluate their skills and suitability. If you are interested as to what this means, I have written a full post on this previously.

Anyway, just as I had planned to work on my challenge, I was asked to evaluate 160 writer applications! It just goes to show how many people would like to be able to work from home during these troubled times. As this took me two full days, I wasn't really in the mood for in-depth concentration on my site.

Just for fun, you may interested in one of the applications - the task involves writing 300 words on a given topic, and this particular applicant only got as far as 200 words, then stating, "I am tired now. Let me know if I have got the job", and then hit the keyboard randomly to produce enough content to reach 300 words! Suffice to say, I didn't approve his application!

Let's get back to my challenge. Since my last update, I have finished my second post, wrote a third post (both at 2500 words), published them and all three are indexed.

I have added myself as a new user, rather than Admin, added a favicon, added the site to Bing Webmaster Tools, researched some more keywords and added the site to my affiliate programs (although I don't plan on monetizing for a while yet), and created a Pinterest board.

I have also done some customisation by changing the font and aligning the header to the centre. For my layout, I have the content in the centre column, and in my right sidebar, I only have a table of contents, no other distractions.

To enable this I have added 2 more plugins - Table of Contents Plus and Q2W3 Fixed Widget.

Surprisingly, I have had a small amount of traffic, but this has all come from Twitter, as this is the only place I have mentioned my site so far. Plus, I received my first comment, but sadly this was from a so-called SEO expert and had to be trashed!

So, the plan for this week, is to create a Facebook business page, create some pins for Pinterest and schedule some tweets, plus hopefully, write another 3 posts.

Hi Diane,

Please educate me. When you start your FB Business page how are you planning to use it?
Will you run ads?
Are you going to invite your friends on your personal FB page to like it?

Also, will you be starting a FB group for your new website?

I haven't had much luck with my FB Business page. If you don't boost your posts then FB will only share them with a small fraction of people.
I invited many of my friends from my personal page to my business page but they don't seem to be very interested in liking or commenting on posts there. I realize it takes awhile to get things started. I also know that the timing of posts is also a factor, which is why some people are using services like Tailwind.

I will start a FB group and see if I have better luck there.

Thanks,
Frank

Hi - to be honest, I am not a big fan of Facebook and haven't used it much for my other sites. I will be inviting my friends to like it, and posting my blog post links on it. I will join Facebook groups relating to my niche and hopefully be able to answer questions, and leave links to relevant posts if allowed. I won't be running ads.

Ok, so we are basically both doing the same thing, that's a relief.

I did run a few $20 ads on FB Business, just for fun and as a learning experience. That did get me some traffic and I even sold some things on my site through Amazon. So $40 for two adds sold 3 items for a total commission of 30 cents, Hmmm .... not too good! Thank God for my daytime job. :-)

You have completed a lot Diane.
Thank you very much for sharing.

Another case of life getting in the way of your passion Diane.

Derek

Very well done, Diane!

Reading your blog and what your "job' involves I chuckled when I saw one of the applicants could not think of 300 words to write. I guess I used to think 300 was long, but like you many of my posts are 2000 words plug.

The WA training has great influence on us.

I will be curious to see the results of adding more social media options works for you.

We wish you much success as you move forward.
