My Challenge - First Update

So, those of you who are following my challenge, will know that I said I will do a monthly report, but as I have achieved a lot within the first two days, I thought I would let you know the state of play so far. At some point, I will expand this into training - thanks to AparnaBansal for suggesting this!

The first thing to say, is that I have spent more time than I initially intended, but I was on a roll and enjoying myself! Yesterday was five hours, and today was four hours. Here are the steps I have taken.

Day One

Bought a two word .com domain. Quite pleased with this, as shorter domains are more memorable.

Built my website - super easy, 30 seconds with WA's Site Builder. I am going to use the Generate Press theme and customise it to my liking, but that's not a priority at first.

Activated All In One SEO, and added my settings. (Although I will be changing to RankMath as my preferred choice)

Deleted Kraken Image Optimiser and added Smush instead (my particular preference).

Added 2 more plugins - Sassy Social for social media and Better Click to Tweet (just because I like it!)

Deleted default posts and added Privacy Policy and Affiliate Disclosure.

Wrote "about me" page and published it.

Set up menu and categories to my liking.

Did 5 Jaaxy searches to find keywords appropriate to my intended post topics, and checked them against Google and Ubersuggest.

Added to Google Analytics, Google Search Console and added a Sitemap. Submitted to Search Console for indexing, which took less than 24 hours!

Wrote and published my first post (2500 words).

Day Two

Created a featured image with Canva for yesterdays' post.

Added 4 images to the post with Alt Text.

Designed a logo using Canva and uploaded it.

Set up a domain specific email.

Did further research in Jaaxy for 5 more keywords.

Added yesterday's keyword to Jaaxy for rank tracking.

Submitted yesterdays' post for indexing.

Wrote 1900 words for my next post, but not finished yet.

Not too bad for a couple of day's work!

I think it’s great what “MyChallenge” is doing. Although I do not know many of the steps he has taken; I am hopeful I can learn them. I plan to start putting in multiple hours this week. I have had some things hold me back but have some of those issues out of the way now. Talk to you soon!

Excellent work Diane! I love how you detailed each step you took. I bookmarked your post so I could come back to it as a checklist to use when I get my new site up and going.

Unfortunately I have to do some offline work first (mow mine and my mother's grass and winterize and break down my pool blahh) but I am hoping by this time next week I will have a brand new MMO site up and going. I have decided I want to start promoting WA while still working on building my herb site too.

I know it is not suggested to build two sites at once but I have an issue staying focused at times and I think the diversity of switching back and forth between the two will keep my mind focused, satisfied and on task better. Besides, in all reality, my herb site will never really be 'finished' as I intend to continue building it out with more information literally forever lol.

Anyhow sorry for the ramble and all my thinking out loud! Thanks again for the timeline and for bringing my mental checklist to life :)

Best, Shannon

Hi Diane,

Great post. Thanks for the info and congrats on all you've achieved in 2 days.

I've just taken a look at RankMath - never heard of it before. It looks great and I'm considering changing from all in one SEO, but I'm a little nervous about it. (I'm thinking If it ain't broke, don't fix it.)

What are the negatives - if any - about RankMath? Is it easy to change from all in one? Would appreciate your advice / comments.

Thanks in advance,
Jane

Hi - if you install RankMath, then you would have to deactivate All In One, as they would conflict with each other. As regards negatives, you do need some underlying knowledge of the best SEO practices, as some of the suggestions it makes are not appropriate, such as telling you to add your keyword much more than you should.

OK thanks Diane, appreciated.

Congrats Diane. What fab progress.
Monthly report !!! Haha. At this rate, you will be done and monetizing in a month or two.

There must be so many of us who always wanted to start another website. Why don't we too join Diane and keep following along with what she is doing? Plus, we can add to tasks, if she misses anything, as required.

This could become such a historic project.

Thank u, Diane. We are as excited about this as you are.

*** yes, absolutely! ... Go for it! .... all the best, cheerio ... :) ***

Good work, Diane... I'm really glad you're sharing your progress, first update, with us. Exellent work accomplishments for within a couple of days, well done! 🎉

I'm using General Press theme too (the Premium).

I'm not using any social media plugin yet... Sassy Social and Better Click to Tweet, I'll check them out.

Wow... 2500 words! Ok... I'm really inspired by your energy. I'm setting up weekly mini goals.

I look forward to reading your 2nd Update.

Have a Blessed Sunday.
Monica
