So, a couple of days ago, I wrote a post about coming up with a unique domain name.

As I was writing it, I came across a few interesting facts about domain names, so I thought I would share them.
The first ever domain name was registered in March 1985 and was symbolics.com
In 2019, voice.com was sold for $30 million
52% of domains end in .com
In 2016, Elon Musk purchased tesla.com for $11 million
In 2017, cars.com sold for $872 million
GoDaddy is the world's biggest website host, with over 58 million registered domains
What Makes a Domain More Valuable?
- Generic value - domains that are suitable for any industry or niche subject
- Brandability - short, memorable names with an easy spelling
- Age - older domains are usually considered more valuable
- Length - shorter domains, just one or two words
I hope you enjoyed these fun facts; thanks for reading!

Very interesting post Diane…thank you.
P.S, I’m not so sure how true it is, but I’ve heard of folks buying domains as investments hoping that in time others will want to purchase them. Now they are not all going to fetch a million dollars, but even if they netted a $100 or even a little less…it still could end-up profitable if the domain was only purchased for $10-$20 bucks and done on a decent scale — sort of how penny stocks work.

Hi, Diane
Interesting post!
People can still find good .com domain names with a little imagination and the right tools, like Jaaxy.

Good morning Diane,
I hope you're doing well. Thank you for the interesting facts, Diane; it's amazing that cars.com sold for so much money!
I believe I remember hearing several years ago that FB.com sold for $7 million to Facebook, amazing!
I guess that brand ability makes domain names most valuable, like the example above.
Have a great Sunday.
