Can You Earn Money Directly Through Twitter?

Last Update: May 09, 2021

So, Twitter has announced a new way to monetize your account. They have introduced the Twitter Tip Jar, which allows users to receive tips from their followers, and surprisingly they will not take any percentage of the money.

The service will allow Twitter users to send money or a "tip" directly to an account through the likes of PayPal.

If an account is eligible to receive tips, there will be a Tip Jar next to the Follow button on their home page. However, there are some limitations. Only accounts in English will be eligible, and it is only open to journalists, non-profits, “experts” and creators.

And who knows what the criteria are to be classed under any of these categories? Twitter is not being very specific about this.

So, can you benefit from this? To check if you are eligible, go to your Twitter profile, and click the Edit Button. If you see the option to enable the Tip Jar and add your payment information, then congratulations!

Unfortunately, I am not among the lucky few, and to be honest, I haven't seen it on any accounts yet. Let me know if you qualify or if you see it anywhere!

I just checked it was like a scene from Oliver, please, sir, alas, nothing. I would be interested in their criteria. You are a font of knowledge, Diane, so thank you. It was fascinating.

I run a CIC ( not for profit ), and interestingly we get good money from a local shop with a system of contribution from the community so it can work. Interesting, Phil

I don’t spend a lot of time on Twitter, but it seems like one of those thing where it’s going to start out free and then when it’s heavily used they’re going to start taking a cut.
