Tuesday Tip- Priorities and Balance

Life changes in the blink of an eye.

Most of us struggle in some way with balancing life choices and managing our priorities. The past few days have brought that into the forefront in my life.

I've often told my children that we are not promised any time beyond the moment of the breath you now breathe. Live each moment as if it were your last. And remember that when you say good-bye to someone, make it special. It might be the last.

No, I'm not a pessimist. I consider myself a realistic optimist.

But it's important to realize that our life on Earth is limited and we never know by how much. We should never take anything for granted. Embrace each moment!

A few years ago, my beloved Mom overcame a heart attack, came back stronger than ever, only to lose her life as the result of a car accident. That sort of thing happens. It was a shock, I was sure she would live forever. But it was also reality.

Reality hits again.

My nephew was riding his motorcycle home from work and was hit by a car. He's alive. But very seriously injured. His father has medical conditions that were exasperated by the experience, sending him back to hospitalization, too.

In the blink of an eye, his life and that of the family, were changed.

Life Happens. Changes happen.

I wrote about how exhausted I was after the wedding. The truth is, I was also taking in the accident and it's results at the same time.

My Websites are important. My life at WA is important. I prioritize them above many other parts of life.

Family is even more important to me.

I know that many of you also value your families like that. Many of us put God first and family right there, an important second.

I think perspective is important. Priorities are important.

Balance

While I do prioritize my websites and even helping others here at WA, they are not as high on my ranking as family.

That said, they are important. I prioritize my websites and the community they embrace above many other aspects in life. I think Zig Ziglar made the point quite well:

“You can’t truly be considered successful in your business life if your home life is in shambles.” —Zig Ziglar, motivational speaker

And the following quote brings that one into even sharper perspective

“No one on his deathbed ever said, ‘I wish I had spent more time at the office.’” —commonly attributed to politician Paul Tsongas or rabbi Harold Kushner

By providing the best balance in our own lives, we can enjoy all aspects even more!

Hi Diane - Nice item for contemplation. Your early comment regarding making a goodbye special resonates with me not from a personal perspective right now, but I'm reminded many who have seen one or more of their family die from COVID19 and have been unable to say goodbye before or even after they've past away. So cruel right now, so if you can say goodbye now, make it count.
The other great point and quote regarding spending time in the office is so true. We sometime lose track of what's truly important when we're embroiled in work issue. In the scheme of things they don't really matter. Thanks for reminding us.

Thank you, Ian. I appreciate your comments. And I agree--I cannot imagine the pain of not being with a family member who is hospitalized during Covid and even worse thoughts if you could not be there as they passed. Even before the pandemic, that sometimes happened when a person was in an accident or fell ill away from family. Very sad, indeed.

Thanks again for sharing your views.

Hi Diane
Thank you for this multi-faceted post and excellent quotes from Zig Ziglar.

I hope your nephew and his Father both recover as fast as is possible.

The only universal guarantee, that isn’t a science law, is that things change. The more we accept and become comfortable with the discomfort that change brings the easier it is to make the best of the outcome.

That's true; change is inevitable.

Excellent Post & Share Diane & perfect timing.

Thank you, Ed. I hope all is well with you!

Putting you family in our prayers Diane, have a blessed day.

Thank you, Tracey. I appreciate my prayer warriors!

Your welcome.

I thank God for having been able to form a beautiful family like my parents'.
