Tuesday Tip: Go Mobile

My Tuesday Tip for my friends here at WA-- go mobile!

Yes, I know most of us have smartphones and we use them frequently. But when we are writing posts and designing our websites, the laptop or desktop usually provides an easier solution.

Honestly, I've never tried to use my cellphone for writing an article. I can't imagine doing so.

And all that is understandable. We use the technology that is easiest and most efficient.

Except...

When looking up a product or referencing some information, that pocket-pal smartphone is perfect. I saw a recent statistic that said nearly 70% of people searching for information on a topic use their cellphone.

The theme I use is considered a "Responsive" theme. That means that it should automatically configure from desktop to tablet to mobile. Since it smoothly adjusts the layout based on the screen size and the resolution, it offers better readability and ease of use for your readers.

*****

EDIT: It's important to know that many themes are responsive (adjust automatically) but there is also a theme that is named Responsive. I was referring to the ability to adjust, not to the actual theme.

*****

Does that mean you don't need to do anything?

Well, yes, and no.

Technically, it will manage the job for you. But I have found that occasionally I need to tweak a little something just to make it look its best on all formats. It does adjust, but the end result is not just what I want. While this is just an occasional happening, I find it quite useful to always check. It only takes a few extra minutes and I sleep better knowing it looks just perfect!

Again, my Tuesday Tip is to consider the Tablet and Mobile formats of your articles. Make sure they are as pleasing as your desktop view. Your readers will thank you by visiting more often and staying on your site for longer times.

And that will result in higher rankings and ultimately lead to more sales!

Diane, this is something that I always incorporate when I'm using my laptop
When I need to look up something quickly, I use my mobile.
If I am out shopping or walking and get an idea, to make it clear in my mind, I look it up and then write it on my Google docs
Awesome blog Diane. Thank you for sharing

It sounds like you have a great appreciation for your tech tools, Simone!

Oh yes, believe me, I absolutely do!

You are correct Diane.
I have also read that most research, shopping and purchases are being done on peoples cell/smart phones. What does the design of your post, blog look like in the cell/smart phone screen. As the customer shops changes are made to meet the customers demand.
Do you remember the rotary dial phones that were plugged into the wall. You had no clue who was calling. The good news was mom and dad couldn't hardly keep track of where you were all the time, especially by GPS. Then we went to pagers, then to flip phones. Now we have small computers that we keep our personnel info on, with tracking ability, we can check the weather, banking balance, order groceries online etc. Oh my how things have changed. As the market changes we will have to change along with it or watch our sales drop and go to other sites. I'm willing to change with the times, how about you.
Be safe
Mike

Always making those little and not-so-little changes to keep current!

Hi Diane

Your post stimulated an interest and I searched for 'why is mobile friendly important'. I came across an article at Google Search Central that points out that since July 1st 2019 Google has been ranking new pages based on 'Mobile-first indexing.

https://developers.google.com/search/mobile-sites/mobile-first-indexing

Members who have been here for a while will probably know all about this already. I knew very little about it until I followed up on your post here. Thank you for the introduction.

I then searched in WA for ´mobile friendly' and found various learned trainings on the subject. I would encourage anybody who is new to SEO to do the same.
:-)
Richard

Thank you, Richard!
Your research adds helpful information to my post and I appreciate your diligence!

Great Tips that i will keep in mind for sure!! Thanks for telling us about your tip!

Always happy to help!

Very Good Diane - Every day Cell Phone providers are making improvements to smart phones. Talking into smart phones is a way to by pass the small keys. If some smart person comes up with a solution to bridge the liability of small keys, then the smart phone would probably gobble up much of the I-pad audience. What a fun time to be involved with these devises.

Very true, Ed. The rate that these tools change is incredible!
