Tracking vs Anti-Tracking

Extensions can help...or not!

I use browser extensions, probably more than I need at times, but I do have my favorites. Today, one of them cost me hours of work time.

I'm not even sure when I added it, but I had an anti-tracker extension on. It was probably recommended to me and did have value in keeping those extra peeks into what I'm doing controlled somewhat.

However, it turns out that it now was also stopping me from seeing some of what was on my own websites!

This is what I saw when I added an html affililiate code:

That's right, just an empty box appeared where the actual image and text should have been.

I really wrestled with this one. I tried different browsers. I even tried different computers. Nothing helped. I reloaded the image. Still nothing.

With the advice of one of my techy sons, I deactivated all my plugins and tried. Still nothing. I stopped short of throwing the computer out the window, although I was frustrated enough to do so by then. I think I was stopped by the realization that it would not have actually made the situation any better. And truly, I'm usually a bit more peaceful than that, anyway.

WA site support assured me it was there, no problem. Really? So I tried incognito. Yes, it worked there.

That's when the son we call "senior techy" walked into the room. Sensing my extreme frustration, he listened to all I had done, then offered to look at my extensions. In less than two minutes, he found the problem and resolved it.

Wow!

That's right, he knew the little issues that might cause such a problem and wasted no time in finding and fixing.

I am so thankful for kids with such incredible talents!

Ok, said kid has been an adult for some time, but as most parents know, they are forever kids to us 😊.

The lesson for me and anyone else who might need it: look beyond the big monsters and seek out the simple problems when needed. This was such an incredibly simple issue, but one I had not given an iota of consideration to. I'm not sure how long it would have taken me to find it without someone with the knowledge and experience.

Today I am thankful

Thankful for WA site support and especially for my talented kids (techy and non-techy alike).

We're in the same boat Diane. I'm not a techy person either. Sometimes I'm held up on a certain hiccup here in WA and I have to wait for my son to come home to resolve it. Thank God for our young people, they help us a lot on technology.

Yes, it is good that we have "in home" help!

Yup
That's what they do!
Always surprising us with their experiences
I know how you feel
I'm also very grateful to have them in my life

I suppose it's fitting that we help them to grow, they help us with tech things!

Absolutely :)

The little things are usually harder to find than the big ones.
I will admit being a non-techy person has been a handicap, in performance and confidence! The confidence thing is the larger problem. Sami

Yes, that's true. Lack of confidence often makes me afraid to try something that my sons just intuitively do.

Haven't heard from you for a couple of days Diane, I hope all is well.

I can understand your frustration when something techy can waste hours of time trying to find what is ultimately a very simple solution for those in the know!

It's great that you have your techy kids, as I rely on my techy wife when having such issues!

Take care my friend and have a great start to the weekend.

Thanks, Nick.
Yes, I've been offline quite a bit-- Fire is not doing as well and they changed her treatments. Spending time with my furkids has taken some priority for now. I feel like a bit of a stereotypical Mom, bribing and encouraging Fire to eat. The vet thinks the problem is, at least in part, due to the lung tumor pushing on her throat. But I'm not one to give up unless/until she does.
Today we are celebrating our twin girls (human) 21st birthday, too!
Enjoy your weekend, my friend!

As a pet parent, we can never give up Diane.

Please wish Rebekah and Abby a very happy birthday from me, and I hope you have fun bowling.

Thank you, Nick.

Hi Diane, sorry you had such a frustrating day but so pleased you resolved the problem. I too have a techy kid and I am grateful for that also.
Enjoy your weekend after all that.
Tracy

Yes, having a techy kid is a blessing, Tracy, as you well know.
Thank you- I hope your weekend is wonderful!
