The Keyword Search is On!

I've noticed many of us have been writing about keywords, thinking about keywords, and yes, searching for those best options for ranking.

It is part of our lives with affiliate marketing, so that's understandable. I always have a few keywords I'm working on. That's what is necessary.

But for the past few days, I've been making a list of topics and keywords. Well, more than that. It's a list that encompasses my pillar topics, then a list of topics that will point to those, and then those all-important keywords.

To be honest, it's the structure I've used for some time. But I kind of slid off the side a bit for the past few weeks. So now I'm re-focusing and building my site structure in a way that makes sense to me.

I guess in that sense, it's not so much a new thing but a return to what I know works for me.

And it's been google sheets to the rescue!

I know that some people do fine with a less structured approach. Find some good keywords, write and publish, then on to the next. And that works in some ways.

But for me, the structured approach works better. Maybe it's because I'm a multi-tasker and need the structure to keep my focus.

How about you? What type of structure do you use?

I don't think I have quite figured out what works for me, Diane. I keep trying different things but so far nothing sticks for long.

In one of our trainings, Kyle had us make ten keywords. I thought, "Great! Now I will have my next ten topics figured out." But it didn't quite work that way. I've since used five of them and added five more. I realize planning that far ahead probably isn't going to work for me.

It can take time and practice to find the style that works best for you. I usually recommend finding a list of keywords to refer to when you need. It's always better to have a reserve when possible.
Depending on your niche, some find it easier to find the topic, then find several keywords, and put together your plan from there.

I've been more about working on my books and a book promotional site. I joined WA for the hosting and support, and to promote my physical business endeavors, Diane!

And that works, too, Jeff!

Thanks, Diane!

I’m really new at this so I’m still trying to follow the schedule as taught in the training. I’m completing the task and check them off. Once I get more experience I’ll need to get a better process. Thanks for sharing. Jim

Yes, Jim, it's good to follow the lessons at first. Over time, you will tweak them slightly to fit your personal needs and style. Best wishes!

When I have chosen a subject and researched it, I find the keyword I will use before writing. Then it's easy to include the keyword in the first paragraph.

Yes, I always have the keyword(s) before actually writing, too. It works!

In 2011, I got on board with a website program that would help you to build your first website...it was not WA.
What impressed me though, was the use of excel spreadsheet to store the keywords. In fact, I still have the keyword list...lol.

Great to return to what you know, Diane...

Rudy

I know others use Excel, too. I have downloaded some ideas onto Excel, but I tend to use Sheets more. Whatever works!
