Life Lessons We Can Learn From Our Dogs

Interesting subject, right? How can our dogs help us in our life or even in our work?

Now, I know that humans are supposed to be the smartest creatures on this planet, but we can sure learn a lot from our pets. My dogs have a way about life that is very healthy. Of course they also know when it is time to eat, play & nap.......but what are some things that we can learn from them?

1. Loyalty

No matter what you may be going through in life, your dog will always have your back no matter what the situation.

2. Enthusiasm

If you say ‘Do you want to do this?’ The dog always says ‘Definitely, that’s my best thing!'” This is an approach to life that would be great to incorporate in ourselves from time to time. Next time you’re faced with a challenge or a new experience that might seem scary, take your dog’s philosophy.......give it everything you’ve got and have lots of fun doing it! Remember that tedious job that you didn't want to do? Think about the final results and it will change your entire mindset. Why? Because when you are finished, you will have accomplished something amazing!

3. Get Dirty

This next lesson we can take from our four-legged friends is 'get dirty while you work'. Don’t be afraid to jump in with both feet, because you can almost always guarantee you’ve done the best job possible. Creating a website can be timely and challenging, but nothing will get done unless you JUST DO IT!

4. Be Yourself

Self-consciousness is something us humans do. Sometimes we worry too much about what our fellow co-workers or friends will think, and have that undue awareness of how we look or how we act. Do you think our dogs care what people think of them when they’re having the time of their lives playing in the park? Does a Dalmatian ever look at a Golden Retriever and think “Wow, I wish I could get rid of these spots”? No, your dog loves life and loves him or herself for who they are, regardless of how others around them act or look. So....don't sweat the small stuff, and just be YOU!

5. Appreciate the Small Things

We’ve all bought that cutest little dog toy for your favorite puppy. But. guess what? They get more enjoyment out of chewing on those old stinky loafers than it ever does out of that new squeaky toy you just bought. Why? Because dogs don’t care whether it is a name-brand. If it’s fun to play with, they’ll play with it. We could learn a lot from this – sure, it might be nice to splurge from time to time, but let’s not forget to appreciate the smaller things in life, and enjoy each day like it is your last!

6. Never Underestimate the Power of the Nap

Napping is a great way to get rid of stress, which might be why you rarely see a dog popping anxiety pills. If you have one of those days where it feels like the world is just a bit too much to handle, take a nap and wake up refreshed and ready to take on the world! Maybe you could even write another WA post or even create a new Blog!

7. Don't Hold Grudges

Have you ever shouted at your dog for breaking a rule? The sad look on its face made you feel so guilty. Your dog does not dwell on the fact that he was scolded. He is certainly not going to hold a grudge. He let's it go! We need to let things go — learn from our mistakes and move on. Don't hold grudges and dwell on the past. There is only one direction to go - Onward and Upward!

8. Love

And finally - Dogs give us unconditional love. They could care less about your appearance. If you love them, they’ll love you right back, and for a dog owner that’s a wonderful feeling. It’s also a great quality to have as a person. So let’s all try not to judge others so quickly. Reach out and share your love with others. You will feel amazing, and you may just make someone else feel amazing, too.
