Are we working harder than we should?

“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”

—Abraham Lincoln.

Need I say any more? Ok, I will.

Many of us try to do things the "quick" but in the end, it turns out to be the hard way. Rather than prepare ourselves for the tasks(s) at hand, we get busy right away under the guise of excitement.

We start by trying to chop down a healthy, stubborn tree with a dull axe. We spend countless hours frustrating ourselves in the process by trying to persist, rather than stop to sharpen our axes.

Before we start anything, we must set goals, have a documented vision. Draw out a framework for success.

Here at Wealthy Affiliate, we have been given great tools, a helpful community and tons of excellent training. To properly position ourselves for success, we must read, watch the videos, ask questions, complete training, practice and practice some more. More importantly we should "begin with the end in mind" - (Steven Covey) before we jump ahead of ourselves. The latter will lead to frustration, burn-out and finally, giving up.

Don't just say, I want to be rich or I want to make $10,000 per month. That's not a plan for success, that's just wishing upon a star. Set goals and work the plan! Let's spend time sharpening our axes.

He who has ears to hear, let them hear.

You're a sharp man with a sharp axe.
I agree we have awesome tools here at WA, some us just need to learn how to use them, and then do it again and again.

Excellent Jae.
You've got it. Full marks...100%.

All the best to you and yours.
Hope your daughter is doing better.
David

Awesome post and so very true. I am often guilty of rushing ahead with the task at hand before sharpening the axe. It cannot be blamed on the impetuous of youth either ... lol
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen

Very funny, Karen. You are still young...
All the best and more!

You are welcome Stunning Bell. Love that name :)

All the best to you and yours!

Well said David. You need to do a lot of planning and preparation to achieve worthwhile goals. Best Alan

Thanks Alan. Well said!
Have a great and productive day!

David

This is all true. I like the way it is written and I like the cartoon you used. I am making a conscious effort not to do this with my business and I have from the start. I get so much more out of this than just money, though. It makes it easier to slow down and be smart about it when you are getting more out of it than just money. Kyle and Carson have designed this community and training so very well.

Very well said, Anita.
We do get more than just money. The money aspect is important though. That's our goal, but let's sharpen our axes first.

All the best to you and yours!

All the best to you and yours as well!

I really enjoyed reading your post! So, true!I'm a dull ax from the beginning but am trying very hard to achieve!I made a comment to someone but didn't mean any harm as they followed by telling me that's why they wouldn't want someone like me in their network!I was just trying to imply that you should" aim for a ridiculous amount of starters because you may be setting yourself up for failure!I was told that I rained on her parade!

Hi Lisa.
Thanks for reading and sharing. I am sorry to.hear about your own ordeal. Don't worry about it.
All the best to you.

Thank you much, partner!

Hello Mike,
I agree with you totally on this one. Each person needs a plan of action to get ahead and put it all on paper. That is a person's road map. A person without that will be lost. Thanks for the post.
Steve

Thanks Steve for your comments.
All the best.

I just finished baking cookies and I'm about to watch the Barbara Streisand special on Netflix... don't think that qualifies as working too hard, lol.

But I hear what you're saying, Dave. It's all good to take that "leap of faith" but you make sure that the water is deep enough before you jump.

Thanks Veronica.
Enjoy!
David

And watch out for the Waddies in the water! Just hadda say that Veronica. How are you today!?

Doing welkl, Papa! Saw you during the webinar....as always you get around. About to call it a night. Pleasant dreams, Papa.

Night night veronica! :)

You make a great point! Many would state that knowledge is power. I would argue to state that "applied knowledge" is power." We must take calculated actions to achieve our goals.

Thanks for reading and sharing Brian.
That's very true.
All the best!
David
