Why is my rank going the wrong way?

I don't understand anything about algorithms and how they work. but I am not going to get my boat paddle and beat them because I don't understand them. And besides, I don't know where to find them so I could beat them.

They must be hiding somewhere. I suppose that is because Carson doesn't want any computer gurus here to find them and change them to their own liking.

Anyway. My rank seems to keep going the wrong way (24, 45, 54, 65, and now 67) even though I am continually writing posts and responding to others here at Wealthy Affiliate every day.

My rank is progressing but the wrong way. How can this be when I spend so much time here writing and responding at Wealthy Affiliate?

Well as said the guy; "I don't know and I don't care." when he was told the two greatest problems we face today are ignorance and apathy.

I do care but I might be caring about the wrong things. My priorities should be about building a money producing website and not about my rank here at Wealthy Affiliate.

So, if you will excuse me, I must go work on my website and let the gods of algorithm alone.

They must know more than I do about how to rank me.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. It goes up and down more than a kangaroo on a pogo stick. I wrote a similar post some time back called Chasing the Dragon. Bottom line, focus on your own business first, help out here when you can, and let the chips fall where the may :-)

Thanks AJ. Great reply with which I agree 100%

And with over 1.4 Million WA members, all it is going to take is it a very small percentage of them suddenly do things that helps their WA rank it is most likely doing to affect your WA rank.

I agree, you have way more important things to do, like building your own websites and getting that content ranked in google.

Good luck.

Thanks David ranking well in Google is way more important than rank number here.

Great reply and much appreciated.

It's hard to say why without getting a bit more information. If you click on the number shown under Rank it should give you a little more to work with (by breaking it down into the sub-categories: helper, creator and activity). You should be able to see which numbers need more attention and adjust your activity to compensate for it.

That said, it's just a metric to show your participation and contribution to the WA platform and community. It has no bearing on your site or success.

Thanks merlymac. good information that I will use.

You have gotten some other great replies.

Trying to improve rank is just a distraction. A temptation that you have to learn to control. If you worry about rank, you are not focused on building your business - which is were the money is at.

It doesn't hurt to pay attention to what is going on in the community and helping out when you can. It feels good to help and you can learn a lot from the community.

If your rank improves naturally, be happy.

If it goes down, be happy for the other people with rank that improved. After all, they really might need that little extra something to cheer them up for a few days.

Best wishes.

Thanks Sondra. Great thoughtful reply.

Hello! Pastor Derry

I just read your post. If you go to your dashboard and click on your ranking link.

Check your position and see ALL the three categories: Helper, Creator and Activity. You may be stronger in one of the three.

If you are stronger in all the three, you will rank well.

Best regards

Smart

Thanks Smart. good information. I appreciate it.

I find that mine waiver's somedays also, yet building the content and building the traffic unto my site demands 80% of my time as it should. Some days I spend about as much as 30-40% on answers, chat and otherwise helping here on WA.

I have slotted a schedule out, and not to go into huge detail, I have run a Pareto chart in excel to see when the best time to answer and do other things involved in my affiliate marketing world. This analyzing took my stress away and made things more manageable.
I am still not completely up on all tasks yet not stressing, since it is not a sprint, as they say, but a Marathon!

As a pastor, I am sure your days to write and research sermons were always organized as well, so I am sure you are doing great and as others say, a lot more are motivated to write and participate.
I see members on chat who are not ranked as high as yourself but doing their 15 minutes a day task. :) Hang in there.
Bill

Thanks Bill. Great reply with much wisdom.

As Winnie the Pooh said "Organization is what you do before you do it so that when you do it you don't get it all messed up." (or something like that.)

Good organization of priorities is the key to success in any endeavor.

Hi Pastor Derry, ah, I wouldn't concern yourself about this rank thing. I too am at 61 and I think if you go under 50 that makes you an Ambassador? Not sure if I'm ready for that yet. Kind of like the police department promoting rookies to Sergeant. They would not have the experience to lead and mentor yet. That's kind of how I feel here.

Let me start making money and gain much more experience and then earn that Ambassadorship.

Cal

Thanks Cal for your great reply. good thoughts.

You're welcome

It just means someone got a little more motivated and got busier than you.

My rank goes up and down. I don't try. The only thing I guess I do is help people when I am in the mood and have a little time. Even with that, it seems to hover in the 100s lately. Its all by accident. I've only written 5 blogs in 5 years and no training.

I suspect though, that the competition is fiercer the higher up you go? Its easier to become a champion than stay a champion?

So...either keep pushing (which sounds stressful actually) or ride the waves and relax a bit?

Thanks dj. Great reply. I appreciate your thoughtful words. I still have to write 2 training posts.

It is a good thing someone is, LOL (writing training posts that is)

Well, that’s a good question. I don’t think the paddle will help.

I have noticed the competition has increased since SAC which makes it hard to rank. And some incredibly motivated people are moving up the ranks.

My suggestion is continue on and be patient and you will see it rise.

Laura

Thanks Laura for your good reply. I always appreciate your replies

Hi - this may not be that you are not doing enough, but that others are doing more than they used to. As part of the Super Affiliate Challenge, members are now encouraged to help others and participate in Live Chat, which they may not have done in the past.

As you say, working on your website is a much more productive use of your time.

Good point Diane. Thanks for this reminder. I don't usually participate in chat which is what everyone is supposed to be doing.

I agree with you that building a money producing website is far more important than rank here at WA
