"Google Shrunk My JPEGs
Google has been working on reducing load times for sites. One approach has been reducing the file size of images, starting back in 2014, reducing file size by 10%. Google recently developed Guetzli, an open-source algorithm that encodes photos, specifically JPEGs, 35% smaller than what is currently available. This is similar to Google’s Zopfli algorithm, which produces smaller PNG and gzip files. Guetzli specifically targets a certain stage of compression that doesn’t sacrifice image quality".
