Reporting Spam

Today as I was about to jump onto the live chat, I spotted an ongoing conversation about one of our members who had been sent to WA jail, presumably for spamming.

Questions and More Questions

This person could not understand why this ban had been placed on them. From all accounts they did not seem to have broken any rules.

WA Rules

Now most members here understand that spamming, or trying to promote their business in the blogs or live chat is a rule breaker and will not be tolerated. The same goes for abusive conversations in the live chat.

If you believe someone may be breaking the rules, please don't just rush to hit the spam button, there are few steps you can take to make sure you should be reporting them.

Stop And Think

Look at the post, are you 100% sure it is spam? Look at the persons profile, this should give you a very good indication whether they are spamming or have just made a silly mistake. I have only been here a few months and already it is clear how to spot a spammer. If you are not sure leave a comment, don't just rush for the spam button.

If the persons profile indicates that they are not just there to drop their links everywhere as fast as possible, leave them a comment. You can let them know that what they have done is not acceptable and could lead to them being spammed.

Not everyone who comes on here gets how this works immediately, people do make mistakes. When I first started looking at making a living off the internet I did not even know what spamming meant, let alone if I was guilty of it.

These Are Real People

When you hit the spam button, immediate bans are placed on the individual reported, and there is very little they can do to appeal it.

These are real people, like you and me, just trying to make a living using WA.

Please stop and think how you could be affecting someone by hitting the spam button without giving it due thought and being sure you are correct.

Think first, act later, the best route for everyone.

Have a good day,

Denise.

I know that a couple weeks ago, I had a person make inappropriate comments to me, but before I could even react, someone had removed the comments. It is kind of nice to know that people have my back here.

As for calling SPAM on someone, I have not seen any spam yet, nor have I seen "the button". I will be more aware of that, thanks to your post. Thanks for the information.

Inappropriate comments are not acceptable, so I am pleased you were looked after. Thanks for your comment, have a great day, Denise.

It's good it's not allowed but people do make mistakes as you say. I suppose its checking how new they are and if they know what it is.
I didn't even know there was a spam button.

This is the point Linda, there is so much new to learn here, that people need to really think about what they do. Thanks for leaving a comment.

I know heard about it. It was a link to an outside of WA on training, other people who do training do link outside sources but training wasn't connected to WA so people complained hence is why writing privileges get banned. Correct we should report spam if linked outside of WA or not connected to WA. There was a good reason for that Kyle and Carson keeps this place free from spammers and trainers who go off and not train about things within WA excuse me but that person knew the rules really no excuses but correct should we careful to report. If numerous of people hit that spam button then we be banned too but also we have the responsibility to watch what we write and be careful not to put any links that are outside of WA. Kyle was very clear on that even in training must be careful, make sure training is related to WA only. I am a newbie even I understand that. Clear as day come on people, just follow the rules, then things wont happen like that. Also dont think that your PM is indeed private cuz its not. The founders own the system. When we PM stick to WA business its so easy to get personally involved with one another lives and be close friends like a team one big family here. I see that in live chat and often its not always about WA that too should be considered spam as well often see spam bots and other links to outside or use their websites on live chat, people can report spam on there as well. Jay encourages us to do that.

I agree that you are responsible for understanding the rules of any platform you work on. Unfortunately not everyone grasps this right at the start. I am just trying to point out that if you report spam, you should make sure you are correct. Thank you for your input and leaving some comments.

I agree it’s easy to make a mistake especially when you are new. I think it’s always good to treat people the way we would like to be treated.
I think that Kyle mentioned that they were trying to clean up the SPAM.
Thanks for the reminder - I would hope WA would look at the post before it was immediately blocked?

I am starting to get a feeling that it is a very automated process, so I am not sure how it it is assessed. Seems to be an ongoing issue. Thanks for your comment.

That person wasnt a newbie, knew better need to follow the rules.

It is so easy to make a mistake without realizing you are doing so. I agree--it is good to think before we push that big button. I like that -- think first, act later.

Thank you, it worries me how easily a person can be treated wrongly.

Not treated wrongly? That person knew better - not follow the rules, if we dont follow the no spam rules then we get our writing privileges banned period thats it training need to stick to WA business.

Thanks for bringing this up, I’m only a week old in WA so it’s good to hear people talking about it now. Do you find this is a common issue Denise?

Cheers,
Ryan

It happens less here than most places but when you have a million or more members it's always going to have a risk of spammers joining. What surprised me is the one I reported earlier today was a premium member and had only posted SPAM in his roughly a week here. What a waste of $19.

Thanks for the information. I’ll make sure to clarify what WA’s definition of Spam is when posting anything.

Ryan

I am not sure how common it is for the wrong people to get blocked, but we do get a lot of spammers on here, and people are not going to tolerate them. Never drop your link in your blogs or comments. There is an option to leave your website and social addresses at the end of your profile, under your network. This way you can share information with the community without spamming them.

YES!!!

It is so easy to miffed and self-righteous about something, that might very well be an OOPS .. and as you posed, These are, for the most part, Real People trying to navigate this WA Jungle, as best they can ...

One of my favorite Affirmations is the one that says:
"Everyone is fighting battles that we know Nothing about ..
So .. BE KIND .. Always ........ (or at least, whenever possible)

Thank You, M'Friend

Joe

Hi Joe, thank you for your comment, I appreciate you sharing your affirmation with us. Have a great day, Denise.

there is a definite tell-tale difference between someone linking their current blog post in their WA personal blog and someone doing like one I found this morning and listing their hours of business, best product line and prices as the whole of a post about their Vape Shop. I draw the line at that and affiliate links in comments. Those I report others I warn.

Of Course .. I stay away from Absolutes for that very reason.
As I posted above "These are, FOR THE MOST PART, Real People
trying to navigate this WA Jungle, as best they can" ..
but of course, there will Always be those twits that just want to
try and Scam The System .. of just think they are better than
those of us who Follow the rules .. UGH .. "Some Peoples Kids" .. LOL

Regards M'Friend

Joe

Excellent post. I may be guilty on a few of my blog pages because I am used to adding references from a related post or to my blog in my signature forum marketing of leaving a link to my blog. I know today I responded back in a comment to someone wishing to see my newest post with the link and thought later that it should have been sent in a PM instead. Nothing criminal just good habits in the wrong place.

Thank you, it is so easy to put a foot wrong without realising what you are doing. I would rather try to help someone than just report spam. Have a great day, Denise.
