Profile Picture Impact

Yes this is a picture of me.

Short quick blog, it is 11 pm here in New Zealand, and I am brain-dead.

Looking through some WA members profiles, I have noticed that a number of people do not put up a picture of themselves in their profile image. Instead, they load in pictures of cars, animals, the sea or beach, and so on.

A number of years ago I joined a very reputable marketing program online, and studied Attraction Marketing through them. This is using marketing to attract people to you, branding yourself and not advertising your product directly.

One of the strong messages they taught was to put your picture in your profile. The main reason for this is that people want to get to know, like and trust you. You may think you are only building a website to sell affiliate opportunities, but your customers are still curious about you.

You may have heard the saying, "Your Vibe Attracts Your Tribe", well that starts with being able to put a face to the person you are dealing with. We are taught not to put on the hard sell, but to be social, informative and offer a solution to a problem, this will eventually lead to a sale. If I see a profile that does not have a photo of the person, I immediately wonder why not, what are they hiding, are they actually real, lol, that is just me.

I had a friend who started a blog and he would not put up his picture as he felt that if someone did not like the look of him they would not be interested in his blog. Do you agree?

Your profile picture is my first starting point, we are very visual, that is why platforms like Pinterest are so popular. You do not need to look like a model, I just want to be able to relate to you, and for me personally, your picture is my starting point.

As I love internet marketing, I would be really interested in hearing the WA communities opinions on this one.

Do you prefer a picture of the person?
Do you prefer a picture that maybe reflects their interest, like a racing car?
Or you don't mind, it makes no difference to you?

Thanks for reading, and hopefully sharing your view.

Denise.

I think that the chances of someone not buying from you because they do not like how you look is far smaller than if they don’t know whom they are dealing with. If someone is concerned about their look they could always dress up and have a professional photographer take their photo. It will cost but worth it to see the person behind the business. You’re right on point Denise. Another thing I don’t like is if the person doesn’t share their name. Cheers! Edwin

Somewhere in training that idea was also mentioned...that it is important to put your picture out there so people can identify you; so they realize you are real. I do feel that people like to see who is talking to them, so a picture is a good idea.

I agree and I find I tend to respond better to images of people.

I agree 100 percent. I have a pic on all my sites, just not this one. Will fix soon.

Mark

Good to hear, thanks for the comment.

I like this message, you are right. I cant understand putting a fake face on here. I want you all to see my little smile and to see everyone for who they are, not their car. Beautiful blog by a beautiful lady! Thank you for encouraging sharing the real you.
Sincerely,
Nurse Becca

Thank you Becca, such gracious compliments. There is so much fake on the internet and I think people are getting tired of it.
To another beautiful lady, have an awesome day.
Denise.

Awww shucks!

yea what a nice smile lol

Hi Denise that is a good point i have to agree the only downside to this from what i no of business in general some people not all i must say would worry weather it would help or hinder there blogs some people just take offence to what you look like how you explain yourself if something went wrong with a product you blog about they could make life difficult for you in general lol but there are always two sides to every coin as the saying goes so it is a good talking point well done nice one

I can see both sides of the story and initially I was not happy about using my face on my profiles. I have got over this and feel if someone does not want to read what I have on my site due to my looks, I probably would not have got any business from them anyhow. You can't win everyone over.
Thanks for your comment, have a great day.

Burning the midnight oil I see!

I also agree with you Denise.

It feels to me like hiding behind a facade when a face isn't connected to content. That leads to a little less credibility in my mind.

But that's why there are choices in life with many things - not all of us think like me - shocking!! lol

Good night, or should I say good morning?
Tom

Hi Tom, always burning the midnight oil, that is the only free time I get, lol.
Choices, so good to have them, and really no one thing works 100% all the time on the internet, does it?
It is all about credibility, but I could have posted a pic of my sister and no-one would be the wiser, so this trust issue is a hard one to build up on the internet.
Morning here, have a good night or day to you to.
Denise.

I prefer pictures of the person. I think it helps build trust. I have heard the quote ‘your vibes attract your tribe’ and think about this a lot.
I believe our training here at WA supports this idea - build trust, be informative and social and most importantly HELP other to solve their problem.
I agree your profile picture is often the first thing a potential follower/ customer will see and you want to make a great first impression as often people make up their mind in the first few seconds of meeting you or reading your article or review.

Thanks for this great comment. Working on the internet I think we sometimes forget that the same social and engagement rules should apply as in the 'real' world. I would not walk into a work meeting with a mask on, though that would be fun. To me your profile picture is so important.
Have a great day or night.

I fully agree with you Denise. "A picture is worth a thousand words". We want to relate to real and genuine people. It makes a big difference to me. If I see that someone has a blog, even interesting I will not follow if there is not a real person behind it.
Great post and I thank you for sharing.

Have a wonderful day Denise.

Jules

Thank you Jules, I have found it interesting that so far all comments have supported a profile picture.
Have a great day to you to and thanks for the comment.
Denise

I prefer selfies. I like putting a face with the name.

Your profile pic draws me in immediately, thanks for your comment.
Denise.

I prefer a picture of a person because it helps to connect. And sometimes it can bring more appreciation.
But I also understand the need to be discreet or private. So, as long as the content is good I will take it.
Thanks

Interesting comment, thanks for sharing Nadia.
Have a great day. I like your profile pic, I hate trying to imagine what someone looks like.
Denise.

Thanks
